Time of past OR future Camino
walking every day for the rest of my life
Seeing mention of Uruena, a restored medieval walled town with a dozen bookshops and under 200 inhabitants in another thread has got me thinking.....what are places you know of in Spain that are not on any "official" camino that would be interesting to visit? And what is their attraction?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Francés and routes in Andalucia
Parque Natural de Cazorla, Segura, and Las Villas in the Andalucian province of Jaén is the largest protected area in Spain (and the second largest in Europe). Beautiful mountains and villages, and lots of walking trails, including two GR’s. Unmanned refuges for free overnight stays on the GR 247. We are walking in the park right now, and starting on the GR 247 next week. https://findpenguins.com/elaine.ned

The Valle del Genal (Malaga province, Andalucía) south of Ronda has walking paths that connect 17 villages, all with places to stay. Link to our journal: https://hiking.topicwise.com/doc/GenalValley

We followed our Camino with 4 solid weeks of travel in Spain and Portugal off Camino routes, in villages and towns no larger than Granada and most of the time never stayed more than 2 nights. That's somewhere around 30+ small towns and villages too numerous to mention.. Cuaves was one favorite though, and we didn't stay overnight.. just a town of 1900, 400+ of which live in caves nicer than the average American apartment.

Toledo, Granada,Córdoba, Ronda , Vic, Besalú , Tarragona, among others .
Toledo is on the Levante
Granada is on the Mozárabe
Córdoba is on the Mozárabe
Ronda is on the Vía Serrana
Vic is on the Camí Catalá

I don’t know about the other two. ;)

And I say this not be the know-it-all, but because it shows you how many wonderful camino options there are in Spain!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Roda de Isabena by night.jpg

My husband and I were driving north on A1605 when without a reservation after dark on a cold night in January 2014 we eventually arrived at the tiny Arragonese hamlet of Roda de Isábena. We were graciously welcomed and the simple heated comfort of our room in the Hospederia plus delicious foods/wines, daylight views and ecclesiastic architecture were such delights that we stayed two nights.

Although small the hamlet boasts the splendid Catedral de San Vicente y San Valero which was destroyed in the late 10th century, rebuilt between 1053 and 1067, and continued to be remodelled in the 12th century. The old cloister had been repurposed as the restaurant of the Hospederia. ...All in all this was another fine example of Spanish serendipity.

What a wonderful story. It sounds like just the sort of place we would love.

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, reading through your journal. Thank you. Do you think it would be plausible to simply copy what you did? I'd probably even make a note of the musical suggestions! I love to research, but I'm not opposed to using someone else's work.

We’d be honored! I’ll send you a pm.
