I am going to the Camino in May, I am travellling from Liverpool to Madrid, then Madrid to Leon. I am having overnightstops in Madrid & Leon. My plan to start walk on the way on the 3 May 2012.

I am hoping to get to get to Santiago de compostella by the 17 May.

Can people advise me if I am strugglin on the way - can you get on transport?

Have I set a hard target?

I work full time so I am using leave & travellin on my own. Family and colleagues think I am mad?

I feel the way Is something I must do - I lost my daughter who was 12 - just over 2 years ago.
I walk in a club and do some running. I have not done anything like this, am I getting nervous.

Again help and advice are helpful to me- Carol H

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
no that is not a hard target and yes if it should turn out to be you can get on a bus...

also, who knows who the mad ones really are

14 days, too tight. Take the bus from MAdrid to Ponferada. Then you'll have some time to spend in Santiago and maybe Finisiter.
There's excellent bus servuce all along the trail from leon to S..

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Please post that bus information from Madrid to Ponferrada when you get it. I plan to walk next year (2013) starting in Ponferrada, but we fly into Madrid..

thanks..Diana

14 walking days to 312 km makes 22,3 a day

for a lot of us that is actually not a hard target especially if you are not against taikng the bus on a difficult day...

We went in June 2008 taking twelve days:
Leon - Hospital (long)
Hospital-Astorga (short)
Astorga-Rabanal (moderate)
Rabanal-Ponferrada (long)
Pontferrada-Trabadelo (long)
Trabadelo-O Cebreiro (moderate)
O Cebreiro-Samos (long but downhill much of the way)
Samos-Portomarin (long and somewhat hot)
Portomarin-Eirexe (short)
Eirexe-Arzua (long)
Arzua-Pedruozo (short)
Pedruozo-Santaigo (short)

The weather was good and we had no problems due to bad rain or anything else that might have made us abbreviate one or more days. We also could have consolidated the last two days and at least made it to Monte del Gozo.

As others have mentioned buses and taxis are always available in an emergency, and you can generally order a taxi at any bar along the way.

Thanks for your information- I have already booked train to Mardrid to Leon.
Can you get a bus from Leon to Ponferrada?

Carol h

Not sure, but we took the train back from Santiago to Vitoria in June 2008. Enroute we passed through Ponferrada and Astorga and Leon. The RENFE website may provide route information if the train going the other direction passes through these towns. :?:
