When trying to make a booking for Portos in May at the only albergue there, Albergue a Paso di Formiga, the owner wrote me that he was going to be closed on Fridays and one other day. If you are planning on staying here, you might want to contact him to see if he is open or not on the day you expect to be there.
Last year when I called the day before to confirm my reservation, he told me that he was going to be closed. He did not contact me ahead of time to let me know. Once I got there, and waited around for a couple of hours until he closed, he then drove me to a sort of near by hotel, paid for my bed, minus what I would have paid at his albergue (13€), and arranged for the owner to drive me back to Portos in the morning. I wasn't sad to have a private room unexpectedly, but I did not find out about it until I got there. Had spent the whole day before, angry and frustrated with trying to find another bed.

I would hate for the same thing to happen to anyone else. Why he doesn't get some help for this busy time of year, is beyond me. If you can't stay in Portos, you will have to walk a bit further.

Staying in Airexe instead. Private room for 30€.
