I would like to work as a hospitalera in an albergue. I have made some inquiries but have not gotten much in the way of responses. I know the Confraternity of Saint James ha their own system and one hospitelero tld me they are scheduled 2 years out. That's a good thing however, I don't know where else to ask. Any tips or suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin,

You can contact Anai at HOSVOL (hospitaleros voluntarios): anahosvol@caminosantiago.org. She is responsible for coordinating the placement of hospitaleros through the Spanish Federation (Federación Española de Asociaciones de Amigos del Camino de Santiago): http://www.caminosantiago.org/cpperegrino/hospitaleros/hospitaleros.asp. They serve about 20 albergues along the various Caminos - all being donativo.

Requirement is to have walked the Camino and to have taken one of their courses which are offered about 4x a year in Spain. The dates for 2013 are not yet posted on the website. Not sure where you are from but there are courses given in other countries such as the U.S., Canada, France, Germany and South Africa.

Speaking some Spanish is a real advantage.

Cheers,
LT

If you are unable to do a course in Spain, they might accept you if you arrive three days early and work alongside the hospitaleros until you take over. HOSVOL (Hospitaleros Volunatrios) don't like people to serve for more than 15 days - it can be exhausting!
If you want to volunteer in non-Spanish Federation albergues (ie Private albergues) you download a list of the albergues here:

and you can apply for a posting here:

(Scroll down to the bottom and complete the application form.)

Good luck!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
