Anca Ulea in the article, Story of the Seine, published 5 february 2024 in Euronews.com describes a new exhibition, Dans le Seine, of the archeological work and some finds beneath the Parvis Notre Dame in Paris. The text and historic/ recent photos are splendid. When you next are in Paris do go down to this river site in front of Notre Dame .

Merci beaucoup!

I have visited this crypt twice on trips to Paris and it is well worth the time to explore if you are a history buff. In 2022, we also visited the MuseoSeine in Caudebec en Caux, which has a wonderful history of the lower Seine estuary and region. We spent a Sunday afternoon there and then a week exploring the area of Upper Normandy.
The impact of the Norse raiders on that region (how Normandy got its name) reached all the way upriver to one of the stages of the Via Francigena. Near Dampierre-sur-Salon (on the Haute Saone about 21km from Gy) is a historic marker at a spot where Bishop Sigeric encountered Norse pirates and (reportedly) hastily buried his sacred vessels and objects made of gold and silver before he met with and made peaceful overtures to the raiders so he and his entourage could continue on their way back to Canterbury from Rome. Don't remember if he lost his precious objects or if he was able to retain them, because what impressed me was this site is about 530km from Calais (or 550km from Le Havre), which indicates the reach of these early warrior/raiders from the North. Amazing.

Bonne chance/Bon Viaggio/Buen Camino
