I am looking for a 5/6 day walk from Lisbon (or possibly Porto) in September. Ideally with good transport links for return to starting point.
We did the Fisherman’s Trail last year - too hot and sandy.
Unfortunately, there aren't many great walks leading out of Lisbon.
One option could be the Caminho do Mar as far as Óbidos, either starting in Lisbon or taking the train to Cascais and starting there. The main highlights are: the ocean scenery after Cascais; Sintra with its palaces and castle; and the walled medieval town of Óbidos. The cons are that the signage is a bit neglected and there's a lot of road walking, but at least it's not sand
Here are our stages and accommodation (for two):
1. Lisbon - Cascais (26km) - Wine Inn €61
2. Cascais - Sintra (28km) - Vale do Sol €54
3. Sintra - Mafra (24km) - Mafra Hotel €87
4. Mafra - Torres Vedras (30km) - Quebra Costas €49
5. Torres Vedras - Granja MG (23km-ish) €55
6. Granja MG - Óbidos (20km-ish) - Senhor da Pedra €48
