Looking for something

2) close to station

I've seen this question asked before but now I'm one of those people.

Thank you

Hotel Monte Carlo in Bayonne is directly opposite the railroad station. It is friendly, inexpensive and a very well located for catching the morning train to SJPdP. Tele 05 59 55 02 68 for a reservation .

Buen camino,

Margaret Meredith

That's what I came up with but wasn't sure. Any good recommendations for SJPDP as well? I wish I could make it all the way there when I arrive in paris but arrives in Bayonne at 11. When I jump to SJ the next morning...I don't think I should just jet out but stay but Bayonne will take a chunk out of my budget. Thoughts?

Prepare for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island, Oct 27 to Nov 2
In SJPdP why night stay tomorrow night in the municipal albergue? Go to the pilgrim office of the Amis du Chemin de Saint Jacques at 39 rue de la Citadelle. They can provide you with a Credential, weather/trail info and lodging assistance. Their volunteers help run the municial albergue at 55 rue de la Citadelle or they can help you find other lodgings when you are on site. They keep up to the minute lists of all available space throughout the SJPdP area.

Since you plan to stay a night in SJPdP .... Have you considered staying at Bordeaux instead of Bayonne? I don't know if it is any cheaper that way ... but it might be worth checking it out.

I'll second Hotel Monte Carlo in Bayonne. I stayed there in 2013. It cost 50 euros for a double.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

Do you remember how you made reservations? : )
I don't speak/write in French.
Thanks

Conflict in train time or something regarding Bordeaux but thank you for taking the time to post. I appreciate it.

Here is their contact page from the post I wrote above for the Monte Carlo. Just write your request in English and email it to them. (NOM is your last name, PRENOM your first name.) To be more accurate write in English use Google translate to make it French and send both in your email request

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
I also recommend the Hotel Cote Basque. It's another hotel across from the train station in Bayonne. Clean, a very excellent bed and shower, and the breakfast was quite good. Since I ended up in Bayonne at 11 pm as well, it was much appreciated.

Another question. So there's only one train station correct? The same one I get off of at 11pm. The next day to SJPP is the same station?

Right! There is only one Gare SNCF in Bayonne.

I didn't make reservations, just showed up and asked for a room. I can't remember whether English was spoken or not.

I'm going to do this one plus add on breakfast. Did you eat there as well?

I did, and the breakfast was quite good and a nice start to the day. Fruit, croissants, delicious breads, jams, and great coffee.

Also, the gentleman at the desk's English was much better than my halting French, which at 11 pm was a blessing. :)

Are you planning to hike this year or are you already done?

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
I also stayed at Hotel Cote Basque, in September 2012. It was clean and comfortable, and it's practically across the street from the station. In fact, it's so close that when I awoke in panic with exactly 9 minutes to catch the morning train to SJPdP, I still made it to the train. I started walking that day around noon and stopped in Orisson for the night (booked in advance), thus saving a night in SJPdP and breaking the big trek to Roncesvalles into two parts.

How necessary is it to book in advance? Not only in Orisson but along the way? I won't have a phone for starters...
Hope I don't get stuck outside or faced with pricey places as I go?
How do you know which Alburgues to stop at other than the first one that's comes into your periphery when you enter a village?
I'm really new to this experience and I just want to go into this with some advice on how to approach accommodations every night. Reserving isn't an option.
Thanks
Any feedback is welcome.
Bring it.
