...I am on day eight of walking the Francés at the moment. It is quite busy. A lot of talk about beds (and the need to book ahead). I don't book. Today I tried really hard not to get a bed. I really tried. Got up late. Took my time to pack...

Excellent points, Rebekah! I would also add that it is very important to volunteer both in "high" as well as in "low" season to get the full spectrum as the more challenging pilgrims are often around in winter. Not for nothing is the Camino...

I can´t tell you how many English-speaking pilgrims dream the dream of moving to Spain and opening up their own albergue along the camino. It is a wonderful idea. Because I did something similar a few years ago, and I still help with hospitalero...

I rather suspect that many pilgrims like the "idea" and "romance" of having an albuergue along the Camino. However, I sincerely doubt that many have a full grasp of the consequences of their actions. In fact, I sometimes think you have the best...

If you’re flying from Madrid, @pmozen, you’d save a lot of time by flying right into San Sebastián, instead of flying to Bilbao and then taking a bus or train to Irún, as @jterzino suggests. Even better than a five minute taxi ride, the SS...

We flew into Madrid, then caught an inexpensive flight to the San Sebastián Airport. It’s actually in Irun, and a five minute taxi ride takes you right to the city center.

I can't quote you chapter and verse, but I'm quite sure that morcilla and chorizo al vino were served at the Last Supper. ;)
