That is what I do too. I use dry bags, without compression. I load, then squeeze out all the air, then roll and seal. The contents can still remain flexible don't have problems with rigidity or wasted space.
My time will be a vacation. My friend's time will be a pilgrimage. To each his own.
I do not think that someone else has an obligation to understand my motives. Without that expectation, I have no reason to be upset in the least. In fact, I don't really care at all what someone else thinks.
I use Smartwool merino removable sleeves frequently. I wear them hiking, mostly for warmth needed in the AM, and I wear them while wilderness canoeing. I also use them for road biking trips.
The beauty is that when you want to remove them you just pull them off from the wrist. No slowing...
I have had many icebreaker items over the years. The GT line was good, but their long sleeve tees weren't.
It does not seem to me that a long sleeve base layer should wear out or get stretched out easily.

Nordic skiing uses poles virtually all the time. They are longer poles (longer still for skate skiing). I have also used them regularly for snowshoeing. When hiking, longer poles do not need to be planted all the way up to the foot, and you can exercise your core just by pushing only behind you.
I will be starting the CF on the last day of March or first day of April.
I have looked at the temps and daylight, but don't see anything on the wind. Does anyone know about a reference on that data, or have personal experience?
