I'm assuming that the quotes are based on the distance including the journey both ways. Most unlikely that the driver could find a passenger for the return journey to Bilbao. That's about 400km. A fee around 1€ per km does not sound so excessive...
We did splurge when we reached Santiago (see pic with bath).
On the caminio we started with albergues but found private rooms were roughly double the cost of two bunks (back then), so we mixed bunks/rooms/hotels for the rest of the walk.

Great training so far, a nd I agree with the suggestions above to taper off in last 2 or 3 weeks. I didn’t see anything about hills, so I suggest doing some gradual hill walking with your pack
