    Traveling from Texas

Good evening. I hope your troubles get worked out and don't let him use them as an excuse to not go. I'm leaving from Houston but I'm only going to walk from Vigo to Santiago de Compostela. You can decide on the city you want to arrive in and then pick your mode of travel to the start of your...

    Backpacks Check-in or carry-on

I never check in luggage. We had a trip where we flew into one city, rented a car and drove to another town. My wife's suitcase was delayed but , by then, we were several hundred miles away. Since that experience, I never check in bags. As one person says: there are two kinds of luggage-carry...

Walking a camino after knee replacement

I'm four months after a total knee replacement and I'm walking 2.5 km three times a week. I'm just starting my walking but there's no pain or swelling. I'm 77 so you have to take things slowly so as not to overdo. I hope to keep my stages between 20 and 25 km. Good luck.

Hiking stick instead of walking poles

I've made several from branches, replacement handles for gardening tools (shovels, rakes etc) and one from a graphite surf fishing blank. You should be able to find something suitable in France.

Walking the Camino with Gilbert syndrome 👨‍⚕️

I have Congestive Heart Failure which has some of the same symptoms as you described. I plan to walk the 100 kms from Vigo to Santiago de Compostela and I plan to walk shorter stages and slower but I can't imagine that fatigue and tiredness will cause me to not walk the Camino. I'd talk with...

    Musical instruments on the Camino.

I come from a background in bushcraft (think ALONE) and folks sometimes brought Ocarinas, Recorders, Harmonicas or other small instruments. Carrying the extra weight a few miles and a few nights would be vastly different than a Camino. It's something only you can decide.

Walking the Camino at age 95!

Since I'm facing a knee replacement on the 17th, this is an inspiration that a Camino is possible!

    Coffee in the Morning?

I bring a coil and instant packages from Amazon. I like my coffee with cream and sugar and it's already in the packs. It doesn't add much weight and makes the journey much more pleasant.

    Smelly boots

There's a wash for wet suits that would probably help. It's great for anything neoprene but might help with GoreTex.
