Talking about work while on the Camino

I do work for a national security agency but when people ask what I do there, I tell them I can't tell them. They typically say the "then you'd have to kill me" joke to which I reply, "Worse. You'd have to work for us." And, that is usually that. :)

    Raincoat or poncho?

Pick one, either one. You're likely to survive to tell the tale either way, and refine your list for the next time.

    Raincoat or poncho?

I'm planning on taking a rain jacket plus an umbrella for sun or light showers.

    Busy, really!,

We were our own "busy" for the first walk of the year. Rescued a large puppy from a kill shelter two days before so we had 3 dogs on the walk. With over 200 total pounds of canines going in three different directions at times, we got in our own way. Happy New Year!

    Feeling blessed

Wonderful Camino gifts from our exchange student, Rodrigo, and his family in Burgos. We can't wait to see them all in Spain next year. Merry Christmas to everyone! Bash

    El Perro -

Good dog! Wish I could bring my hiking buddy with me. He's a Great Pyrenees, so his ancestors are from around there!

    New? umbrella clips

Don't know if they're any different. I bought them because they were so cheap and sold by the same company from whom l bought the umbrella so knew they would fit. Not worth it to me to do anymore research!

    New? umbrella clips

I just added the umbrella clips to a Gossamer Gear order and will be happy to report on how they work after some use.

    Camino Snobs

Offer to remove the kilt immediately. If these folks know so much about kilts, they may have heard what's worn (or not) underneath. ;)

These make me want to read your book!

How light is too light? Backpack question

Looks like the GG Gorilla 40 will be a winner. Long enough in the torso, very comfy at the expected 5kg load, and enough room so that a quilt can be loosely packed in the bottom--and I get to support fellow Texans. Thanks once again, Dave. Regards, Bash

How light is too light? Backpack question

Thanks for all the useful information, Dave. The fellow at Gossamer Gear that was helping me with the Ranger 35 very kindly offered me an _additional_ discount beyond the sale price. Between that and your endorsement and personal experience, how could I not order a Gorilla 40? This will be...

How light is too light? Backpack question

Well, the Gossamer Gear rep agreed the Ranger 35 was too small. Took the Gregory Ranger 40 back to REI to be refitted and it is too small also (load lifters are at zero degrees at max adjustable size). Now looking at a Gossamer Gear Gorilla 40, with a listed torso size up to 23.25 inches...

How light is too light? Backpack question

They keep dropping the price! Got mine on sale for $124 a couple weeks ago. Think it was originally $169. It is a great-looking pack--even better in person than in the picture--and well-made. Read somewhere that it was touted as fitting up to a 24" torso. Unfortunately, it turned out to be...

    REI Trail 40 pack

You all are a bad influence! ;) Just ordered a Ranger 35 to try out; it should be here tomorrow.
