One on my "to walk" list is the Cammino di San Benedetto - from Norcia through Subiaco to Montecassino. (Although being a close friend of the benedictines in Norcia I would personally walk it "backwards" so to speak). Definitely worth checking out.
Also the Way of St. Francis is a great option...
Thank you, they certainly would feature on our future list of choices :) And thank you for good tips!
Never heard of that one, looks interesting - from a quick image search, maybe more people are doing it on a bicycle? (Maybe I will save this one for a future bikepacking trip then... :) )
Ah...
Good idea. I have walked the Primitivo last year with my son - look up on the thread where I describe our itinerary - thinking the Primitivo too short we started in Villaviciosa - and from Lugo went back to the Norte at Sobrado... Very happy about both these choices.
Any way you choose, enjoy...
Thanks everyone for chiming in - I greatly appreciate your tips.
One thing I maybe should have mentioned is, that we are quite fit walkers - last year with my son we have walked from Villaviciosa to Santiago in less than 12 days - our total was somewhere around 370km (we were not in particular...
Thank you, @Robo - I have to say that I kind of overlooked the Invierno as an option by itself, I've always thought about it as just a variant of the Frances, but it does make sense...
Regarding the entrance to Santiago itself - I did think that maybe a final part of Via de La Plata would do...
Dear friends,
after my last year's pilgrimage on the Primitivo with my oldest son, this year is the turn of my daughter...
The idea is, once again, to walk in autumn, most likely October, I can take at the most two weeks off from work (she will be in her last year of home-schooling, so school...
Dear @Kathar1na , your input is indeed very accurate and helpful.
I can attest that that what @dbier wrote is 100% correct - if you do not have a QR code on your phone you will be asked to put in your data at the kiosks before being allowed to get a ticket for the queue (if there is one).
We...
OK, so now that we are back home, for my own record, our stages:
Day 1: Villaviciosa to Pola de Serio
Day 2: Pola de Serio to Escamplero - including a visit to Oviedo Cathedral and the Naranco churches
Day 3: Escamplero to Salas
Day 4: Salas to Campiello (with a mid-day Sunday Mass at Tineo)...
Deo gratias!
After 11,5days of walking from Villaviciosa we have reached our destination today!
We have also taken the Camino Verde route from Lugo to Sobrado, it was extremely lovely walking - and caused no issue in getting our compostellas.
Thanks to everyone here for your help and...
Having a little bit of free time (as there is nothing to do for me in Lugo now, even the cathedral was closed in the afternoon, where I wished to spend some hours in prayer), I tried to fill the registration form for the compostella and got stuck.
We (me and my son) are walking the Camino...
Just a reference note for further planning - if you want to avoid great crowds on your Camino, do check a list of local fiestas… I believe I saw one even here on the forum, but did not pay much attention to it.
And how great was our surprise an hour ago when we arrived in Lugo (after seven and...
Thanks for this thread - and all the best for the remainder of your journey! I do hope the places will become less crowded, as we start following your footsteps the day after tomorrow…
Ok, me and my son are now on the train, to catch a morning flight from Prague, then another from Frankfurt and then a couple of buses - and hopefully, Deo volente, we will start walking towards Santiago on Thursday 27th from Villaviciosa, through Oviedo and the Camino Primitivo.
✅
Thank you, that is exactly what I have been looking for - to help with the little bit of planning that I have time to do. I don't speak Spanish, but I know Latin well enough (and speak somewhat Italian) so I understand written Spanish without problems. With spoken language it is a little more...
