This smacks of judgmental “taking a taxi or bus doesn’t count” - in whose book??? Pilgrimage with aches, pains, and other issues can be about planning and flexibility and acceptance of what is. Putting an opionated judgment on someone only increases their burden not lesssns it.
My husband and I start Sept 1 also. Because of wildfire smoke our training has been drastically reduced too. Day 1 we are going to the virgin. Day 2 virginnto Roncesvalles. Burn camino
Us two oldies but goodies start Sept 1. Current weather prediction for thunderstorms both the first and second. We are 75 and 72 fairly fit and older and wiser. We have baggage transport and reservations. So if the SJPdP pilgrim office says do not start how do we get to Roncevalles? Taxi? Bus? ???
I am glad to see that someone else is okay with lower mileage. Starting first Camino on 9/1 at age 75. I am worried as today walked 7 miles and had pain in one foot. Not new. Since our accommodations are booked will have to do a combination of walking and transport until walking gets built up.
We are doing the Camino frances starting September 1. Have plane tickets round trip to Bilbao from Seattle. Need to get to SJPP on August 30. Also back to Bilbao from Santiago on October 16. Please advice how this is possible. Thank you for your info!
