    Post Camino Blues

Kimberley, two caminos, Frances and Portuguese. My insight is that the Camino does not end with Santiago or Finisterra. The Camino continues at home. In my morning meditations I ask Santiago (St James) to keep showing me the way. Simplifying my life at home is much more difficult than on the...

Has anyone had a haircut on the Camino?

In Porto Marin (2012), went to a hair dresser. Asked the hair dresser to "me deja pelon". She laughed and "me dejo pelon". did not need a hair cut for another 6 months.

Has my Camino dream been broken?

Mike, as age creeps upon me on a daily basis, I say this Jewish prayer and just keep going: "Blessed are you God, who heals all flesh and acts wondrously." I'm planning the Northern Camino in 2017, May/June. God willing my body will be ready. I pray that yours will be to.

LIVE from the Camino So glad I brought

Dean, here is a suggestion: go to a pharmacy and get a tube of Voltran, it is a topical anti inflammatory (ibuprofen). Works great on joints and muscles. It is over the counter in Spain/Portugal. Ask pharmacist. It may add 2 oz to your back pack but your knee will love you for it.

    Porto Accomodation

Kristone, Stayed in Hotel la Bolsa. Well situated in center of town. North of the river. It is in the financial district. lots of great eating places. nice walk down a pedestrian walk to the train station. Cheaper hotels, hostels within the pedestrian walk way. Go back accross the river to...

Coimbra to Santiago or Porto to Finisterre?

I did Coimbra to SDC May 2015. Coimbra to Porto is difficult in that you are walking on lots of cobble stone (old Roman road) and paved road. If your deciding between your two choices, in retrospect I would choose Porto to SDC to Finisterra. Spend time in Porto. Drink great Port and eat a...

    Beware the Germans are coming

Agree with CanPete. All cultures have their quirks as well as their wonderful Spirits. I would hope that anyone planning on doing the Camino would not load up their emotional back pack with critical judgemental stuff and load up with curiosity and loving Spirit. Met lots of Germans on the...

    Walking from Porto on Sunday

Walked this section in June this summer. You may know this already but if not: take metro to Matosinhos and get off on the Mercado or farmers market exit, next to last stop on this route. If you get off on the last stop you will have to back track a bit to go over the bridge, not far. Enjoy. For...

    Camino Portugues Questions, Cycling...

Lisa, I biked the Frances in 2012 on a hybrid. Walked the Portuguese this past May/June. I saw lots of cyclist on the Portuguese on mountain bikes. The Portuguese is much harder on bikes than the Frances. Hybrid would be good but mountain bikes better. Lots of very rough cobble stone and the...

Leaving Porto by train/metro? Which station to stop?

If you decide to take the coastal route at least up to Vila do Conde, take metro to Matosinhos as has been mentioned. Get off on the Mercado stop, which is the next to last stop. If you happen to get off at the Matosinhos exit, the last stop, you will have to back track to the bridge that goes...

    Buying a bike in Lisbon

You may have good reason to buy, but may I suggest you rent. I've had very good experience with bikeiberia in Lisbon. They provide great service, will deliver bike to your hotel and pick up in Santiago. I have used them for a Frances Camino and currently for the Portuguese. Make your trip as...

    Reserving Albergues...yes or no?

I know of a pilgrim couple who did not call ahead. She was pregnant. When they got to their destination, they could not find a place. They ended up finding a place in a barn and slept with the cows and sheep. She had her baby there. I guess one can always find a place.

You may want to use a airporter from Osprey that you can get at rei. Here is a picture of my kids that has been used on several of their trips.

    Cyclists !

Not always true. Biked with my family. Ended our day around 5. By then walkers would have already washed clothes, eaten, and many were already in bed. We were lucky in that only 2 of 10 evenings did we find no room in the first Alberga we stopped at. It is sad to know that bicigrinos have left...
