The joy of sharing the last 100 km

It seems to me you are trying to impose your criteria on others and this is not an elegant or fair thing to do. You are free to walk whatever path you want in any way you want and you may not always be a gift to the others with whom you share the path - each one of us can be a burden to others...

The joy of sharing the last 100 km

There are no "true", "real", "fake" or "false" pilgrims - there are just pilgrims. The path belongs to all and each does it in their own way, with each bringing their own paradoxes, idiosyncrasies, personal mannerisms and character - I find those who judge do themselves and others a great...

Backpack Etiquette - or I don't want to be a Jerk

I sometimes left my pack outside cafes while sitting inside, but I often felt a little uncomfortable, so eventually I just brought my bag into the cafes when I couldn't sit outside - it never caused a problem. And I agree - you should carry your pilgrim passport, regular passport/id card...

    Top Albergues on the Camino

Unless you regularly need to get up to pee in the middle of the night - in this case it's better to be near the door/toilets ....

    Top Albergues on the Camino

Hi. I loved the family run Alberge Verde in Hospital de Orbigo. The welcome is warm, the vegetarian food delicious (meat eaters won't de disappointed) and the playing of spanish guitars very fitting for where we are. They also offer massage and yoga sessions to soothe aching limbs and feet...

What is the one Albergue that you would say not to miss

Ankle injury just before my camino starts

Hello everyone. Thanks a lot for your very helpful suggestions. I'm in Pamplone as I write - I'm a tourist and nurse but not a pilgrim yet. It looks like I won't be ready until the end of the week so I will probably start from Leon on the del Salvador camino to Ovideo and then take the...

Ankle injury just before my camino starts

Hello everyone - I would like your advice on a problem I have. Normally my 33 day camino starts tomorrow from SJPP, but last night I sprained my ankle and I can only walk with a limp at the moment. There are no breaks or fractures - its just a sprain with some swelling and moderate pain when...

Signs that your Camino is close

I'm just over a week away and I have stopped planning and evaluating - the die is cast and all I have to do now is walk. Quietly excited !!!

    Essential Oils for Bedbugs?

This is a very good example of each to their own - if you like essential oils you will use them and if you are happy with industrial chemicals you will use them. There are a lot of threads on this subject - I include a link to one which I found helpful and a link to a site giving a balanced...

    Which Camino to take

Hello. This news is heaven sent - I have been struggling with finding the right path for my camino in September and a combination of the Frances, del Salvador and Primitivo caminos may be the answer. I can start from SJPP and do as much of the Frances as I can, busing to Leon when necessary to...

What's the best day of the week to leave St Jean to avoid the congestion at the start.

Gosh - these numbers are surprising for me - I had heard that up to 150 pilgrims a day can leave SJPP but the chart for September indicates that there will be over 2000 in week 36 - over 300 a day and probably concentrated at the week-ends .... I'm starting from SJPP on Saturday 29th & am...

Merino Wool ~ YES, it is worth the high price + its "stink free"

There is a reasonably priced version of merino in decathlon - it's called Techwool & some tshirts cost 15 - 50 euros. I haven't tried it myself yet but I read some comments on climbing & trekking sites which were positive. I will be wearing them on my camino in September & will let you know...

    Blankets and Bedbugs

I'm happy to hear that - I bought an osprey Atmos 50L and was told it was too big, but it is unquestionably the most comfortable pack I tried. As for bed bugs - I think I would prefer the bites to the pesticides that might or might not prevent them.

    Right size shoes

Its the sales period here in France, but my pack and shoes were not on special offer - that would have been really nice. But its ok - this is a special time and worth a bit of investment - whatever keeps me on the path is worth it.
