What should I do about a phone?
Walked the Camino two years ago and last year walked the West Highland Way. Both times I used my USA T-mobile senior account which includes an international plan at no extra cost. Keeping your USA phone number is important if your bank requires third party confirmation.- Finley

Time to get through Madrid Airport Passport control queues/Covid checks?
This past April I flew into Madrid from the USA on a Monday morning arriving at 8:30. connecting flight scheduled for 12:00 noon for Pamplona. Easy peasy I have 3 hours to get through customs grab something to eat and get to the gate. nope! Arrived at customs and there were at least 100 people...- Finley
