Hey Polmaja,
I'm going to be doing the same hurdle - leaving in mid-December 2009 (in 5 weeks!) and into January 2010. Hope to see you on the trail!

Also - I forgot to mention -- there is a group discussion board on CS for "Camino de Santiago - St. James' Way": http://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=1506

I am a member, name is also "hewink".
I've couchsurfed while traveling and enjoyed every opportunity to meet people from around the world. Often times your hosts are very generous and will do more than expected -- feed you, let you do laundry, shower, etc. You can become lifelong friends with them and later host THEM if they can...
Hey Jo,
I forgot to ask you -- What brand Thermal pants and Quick-drying pants are you bringing? I've been asking around for lightweight/quick-drying pants and everyone sends me to the summer clothing section (think nylon). Any good thoughts?
What about safety while traveling alone in winter? Due to unforeseen circumstances it now appears I may be solo December/January 2010. I plan on getting a prepay cell ... any other advice?

I'm looking at a winter camino -- the Camino Frances Via Roncesvalles starting sometime in mid-December. (depends on weather)
This pilgrimage has been seven years in the making! So excited!
