I volunteered at a hostel last year and we had two people arrive with dogs -they were happy for them to stay and for the dogs to sleep in the hallway or outside -but they were most def welcomed .this hostel was in Pieros -can give details if needed
Buen camino
I walked the way 4 years ago and had two rest days -one actually in Burgos which I loved -but that was city life ,great tapas and culture
I did not plan this but if felt right at the time
The second was just outside cacabelos -in Pieros in a very small Albergue that I liked so much I just...
Some of the albergues are running on such tight budgets that I m afraid the heating is the last thing to be put on -I always travel with a hot water bottle which makes a bed warm and cosy -
It has been unseasonably warm and many hostels are happy that perhaps just a fire will be enough heat
As...
Slightly depends on the nature of the bunks -some are so flimsy and unsafe that the whole thing creaks and moves with the occupant of the top bunk getting in and out -making the bottom bunk feel rather noisy -I would always go for a bottom bunk ! You made me laugh about which bunk you were...
I started end
I started my camino in late September and ended in finisterre on November 1 St the weather was glorious most of the time and I walked alone when I wanted solitude and found enough people for company when I wanted to
So I would say -not too lonely not too cold!
Obviously you need...
Leon to Burgos would be a good slot to miss but even though there were industrial bits and they weren't that nice it all added to the contrast and made the nicer bits seem even more special
If you do have the time do the lot
In Pieros the vegetarian Albergue is called Serbal y la luna and is super -very friendly ,delicious food-cous cous and vegetables ,clean and comfortable -the best beds-definitely worth making a note of!
As a hopeful future hostel owner/runner I would never advocate 'stealing' from an Albergue but my daily consumption of loo roll is approx 10 sheets-not a whole roll -this is not something that I would be mean enough to begrudge a pilgrim -after all they could quite easily use it whilst staying...
Wow what a lot of comments
So
What is the sure fire way to prevent and deal with such problem both from pilgrim and Albergue point of view?
Chemicals ,sticky strips,throw away covers?
Allow as much time as possible -take at least 20 minutes every day to walk at half your normal walking speed and LOOK,APPRECIATE,ABSORB! It becomes quite easy to get swept up with just going through the motions and sometimes forgetting the gentle pace of life
Enjoy every day
Give yourself...
Love all the opinions
I would say as long as you have a pair of flip flops-for grubby showers and evening wear you don't need another pair for eve -just seen your flip flop comment -get used to them they're invaluable
loo roll-not needed -just take enough for each day from where ever you are...
Lovely comments
I loved it there too and wish I could go and help -it would make such a difference -but -we just have to trust and hope that the universe will deliver!!!!
i write this on behalf of the owner of Albergue serbal y la luna in Pierros-outside cacabellos
Help is needed!!! There is a large pile of wood and logs that need cutting up into fire size pieces and stored away-this will uncover a great area for an outdoor eating site.board and lodgings offered...
