I normally look at Rome2Rio first. This year I've booked via that site to Omnio and then paid for a ticket (Madrid - Cordoba) on an iryo train which is much less than Renfe.
Now that I've finished the book, I have a couple of comments:
1) How could one man consume so much beer?

When I was last there, a local man was sitting beside the start of the forest track advising everyone to take the road. I did this and it wasn't such a busy road at all.
In 2015 I followed a suggestion from Mspath to contact Gorge from Hacienda el Val to arrange for him to drive me around this area. It was a great experience:
