Thank you for posting this. Overcoming fears and anxieties and learning to let go was my biggest lesson too on the Frances. Looking forward to doing the coastal Portuguese next year.
Hello @davebugg it was due to your kind suggestions early last summer that I tried the HOKKA'S. I was so grateful to you all the way to Santiago:). They sure worked for me.
Hello @Moorwalker it took me forever to find a light trail shoe that worked for me. I settled on the HOKA ONE ONE Bondi 5. They have a wide base, lots of support and cushioning. I LOVED THEM!!!!! I walked the Camino Frances from SJPP and never had a blister or sore feet. Hope you find shoes that...
Before I left for my first Camino someone suggested that I bring an S shaped hook to hang over the shower door to hang my light waterproof bag with my valuables in it. Passport, money, credit card. Many showerstalls along the way are very small with no hooks or bench to hang the little bag on...
Just finished the Frances and did it with HOKAs Bondi5 and loved them. No blisters, I was maybe lucky but my feet were happy in them. Thank you @davebugg .
But I agree try different things and use what makes YOUR feet happy. Buen Camino.
Thank you to all for your quick responses and kind advice. My knee is even worse after my walk to Villafranca now, so regretfully it will be a ride up to O'Cebreiro hopefully the rest day will help with the decent on the other side the day after.
Thanks again!
We are on our way to Villafranca and my knee is not doing great so I won't be able to do the alternate route tomorrow. I understand that there is a dangerous section in and out of the highway from Villafranca to O'Cebreiro which I would like to avoid. But I would like to walk as much as is...
Hello @lruault l am from Vancouver Island and will be heading out of SJPP on Sept 10th, also on my first Camino. I share your trepidations. My pack weighs 12 lbs also, more than 10% of my weight trying to figure out how to make it lighter. Hope to meet you along the way. Buen Camino!
Thank you @davebugg and @Glamgrrl I do love my Hoka's. It took me several shoe trials before I found what works for me, and that is in big part thanks to the wealth of info imparted by many of you on the forum. Dave one of your posts was actually what inspired me to try the trail runners. I...
Thank you for that post @Glamgrrl that is good news for me. I am heading out to SJPP next Thursday with my new Hokas Bondi 5. My first Camino! Did you have rain along the way? I wondered how they would be in the mud or how quickly they would dry?
So glad you committed Ian!
It took me a while to do that too but once I booked my flights (from the west coast of Canada) all my trepidations stopped. The hardest part for me was the decision to leave my family for 6 weeks! I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother; I turned 69 this August and ...
Hello Krista, thank you for writing about this. As I was reading it I was thinking that this is like my story... except I could not have articulated it as well as you have . I also have 6 weeks left before I leave Canada headed for SJPP and I too have for the first time in my life experienced...
