getting to St Jean from Charles de Gaulle

True - actually watching Midnight in Paris at the moment :) wonder into old Paris for the afternoon, take in some of the sights. I wish I had.

getting to St Jean from Charles de Gaulle

I know someone who did this and it was fine. I flew via Paris to Bordeaux, and then caught the train to Bayonne, and then the bus to SJ from there. Whatever route you choose, travel in Europe is so easy.

    Footwear

I normally wear a size 7 shoe, and bought a ladies size 8.5 Merrell Chameleon boot which felt great in the shop and on local walks, but I had this nagging thought that they would not be okay if my feet swell, which seems to be a guaranteed event. I went back and bought a mens size 9.5 in the...

    Money

Just a comment... I went to a Camino talk where the speakers (experienced Pilgrims, I might add) said that is exactly what they did. I wouldn't walk around with the equivalent of R14500 in my wallet at home, so I suppose it would make sense not to do it in a foreign country, but what if cards...

    How much cash to carry?

What is the least offensive way (more than one would be great?) to break a €100 note?

    Camino in April/May 2014

I have a bright red pack with a South African flag on it, as well as the Forum patch (thanks to Ivor!). 30 days to go!

    New Camino documentary

I agree with Saint Mike II - The Way is a completely different type of production, and will always be my first glimpse into the Camino. I would like to see the documentary, but only after I have been on my own Camino trek.

In Torres del Rio…..Where I Stormed the Battlements

Ha ha ha :) Your apology is gracefully accepted, kind Sir.

Guide books - and the sour taste they leave

Thank you for this! Has anyone else got an alternate route they would like to share? There seem to be a number of first time walkers setting off in the next few months, and I am sure we would all like to take full advantage of your accumulated knowledge of this magical route.

In Torres del Rio…..Where I Stormed the Battlements

And miss the fun with the dumpsters?? Yes, I suppose you are right... He he he!

In Torres del Rio…..Where I Stormed the Battlements

And if I wasn't there trying to climb over with you, I would at least have tried to catch you on the other side.

In Torres del Rio…..Where I Stormed the Battlements

Oh, nonsense. We ladies are equally keen on adventure, and are exquisitely resourceful in our own right. No one wants to hear, or tell, stories of being tucked safely away in bed every night before curfew like good little children ;)

How do you manage to get out of work for 5 weeks?

My personal experience in this regard is that it is incredibly difficult to get this time off without some sort of repercussion, be it unpaid leave or uncollected comments and snide remarks about your dedication to your job, and even calling into question the quality of your work by your...

    Camino Frances May/June 2014

Hi Charlotte, CK007 and I will be setting out from Cape Town on 24th April, so will unfortunately miss you on the Camino. I wish you and your mom an amazing pilgrimage, and let us know how your preparations go. I am going to the consulate next week :)

In Torres del Rio…..Where I Stormed the Battlements

This could make for a very entertaining book. Of course, you would have to consume regular bottles of Tinto in order to fully embrace each situation as it arises. It reminds me of my father telling us stories of his childhood, and the adventures they survived
