Should I take a sleeping bag? (early October camino)

Depends on how warm you are yourself :) I was walking in October last year using a fleece liner from SeatoSummite - I was COLD! Luckily there are blankets in most albergues. In a few places though I had to put on all my clothes and put a rain poncho on top of myself to keep warm.

    Casa Magica - new management

It's a shame... The paella was really good. Even though you could get it everywhere, as it's not originated from the regions where CF goes through, it's normally quite average... But you can't expect previous owners to run cooking classes for new ones, I guess... Casa Magica used to be vegan...

    Pamplona at 4am

Hi guys, Just considering our options of getting from Barcelona to Pamplona. If we miss the latest Renfe train on the day (18.40) we may need to catch the night bus instead, that arrives at 4 am :D Any ideas where to stay for a few hours in Pamplona? I don't recall if there was a waiting room...

    300 Bedbug Bites

@Linainuk, so sorry you have been "attacked" so badly. Please care about yourself, see the doctor and treat your stuff. It's very hard to determine where bedbugs came from... Unfortunately, either can be true - the albergue already had them or you brought them with you... :'( I'm lucky, as...

    Pyrenees or O'Cebreiro

Thank you, @VNwalking :) I researched it a bit, looks doable. Just because it requires lots of pre-planning and advance reservation, I'm afraid to loose flexibility, especially as unsure if possible to find bag sending service before merging with Sanabres... I don't want mum to feel too much...

    Pyrenees or O'Cebreiro

Thank you, guys :) We keep thinking. As we go as a family, sorry if it hurts anyone, we are not really looking for “Camino family”, though would be glad to meet new people every night. Especially, as my parents do not speak English, and unlikely my 14yo meets a lot of peers of her age to connect...

To Orisson or not to Orisson...

Agree with the opinion, that two nights in SJPP might be too many. I arrived into town around 11.30am, in a couple of hours I walked it through and was starting to get bored, though its a beatiful town of course, and walked to Orisson. Next day was an easy stroll to Roncevalles.

    Pyrenees or O'Cebreiro

Thanks. I foolishly thought this route “operates” during winter only :D I understand, it was originally made to avoid mountains climbs? Not sure, its what we want... Though, June being one of the popular months on CF scares me a lot - both me and my dad are uncurable introverts ;)

    Cheap but fine equipment

Thanks, good to know. Will look into it. :) No, I have not. I bought a few things for my daughter, including the backpack. ;) now just need to test those. Unfortunately, it wouldnt work for my parents. We bought them Keen sandals, while they were here, but sending from AU to EU costs a fortune...

    Pyrenees or O'Cebreiro

Thank you everyone for their kind advice. Looked at pictures of Sierras de Ancares and Sierra de Courel (the Camino follows kind of between two) and both look very splendid. I undestand, that after all, the final impression from mountains depends on the weather that day. I was lucky to have a...

Thank you for such a beatiful insight, Andrea, lots to think about :) “Nezabudka” is the name for forget-me-not flower in most slavic languages. I’m originally from Latvia ;)

    Pyrenees or O'Cebreiro

Thank you, @André Walker :) all sound things to consider. Its probably once a lifetime experience for my parents. Thats why, I believe, we need Compostella, so they have a feeling of accomplishment. Very unlikely they ever come back without me. For all of us its more a family bonding experience...

    Cheap but fine equipment

Thank you, @David :) I’m looking for a backpack for my dad now. They do not have Decathon in their small european country, and luxury items like Osprey are too expensive for my parents. @Albert_Hadacek, I guess, for most pilgrims it would be too late to buy equipment when already in Spain...

    Cheap but fine equipment

Just wondering if we could try to collect all experience about less expensive hiking gear in one place? Cheap not necessary means poor quality all the time :) Yes, of course, we all try to hunt sales on our favourite brands, and quite often the cheap stuff that is sold online would be a fake...

    Pyrenees or O'Cebreiro

Hi all, Looking for your opinions about the route selection. Next year I will be doing a part of CF with my parents and a teenage daughter. It will be the first experience of this kind for them. We will have around 2 weeks in the first half of June. My original plan was to do SJPP to...
