If the hiking pants have a zip off portion then they should be ok. I walked Camino Francés many years ago in late May /June. I initially shipped some stuff home and then had to buy a fleece in Atapuerca. Maybe shorts or leggings but not both?
I stayed there in 2022. Was a great little town and albergue. I think it was already open when I arrived. As above I think it is just as you enter town. I can't remember what I did about registration and payment.
Possibly best to get some type of travel card loaded with Euros (e.g. Wise or Cash Passport). You get a better exchange rate, and they work well. A lot of Spanish ATMs are contactless so you don't have to worry about them accidentally sucking up your card. You can load more Euros at any time...
The opportunity to face alone-ness and loneliness is one of the Camino gifts. It was for me.
The Camino is a great space to feel how you feel - let I eventually pass through - and find out what is on the other side.
Buen Camino
The walk from Ourense is beautiful, well supported and not at all crowded. I walked solo every day but met others at cafes and albergues. Apart from the hot springs in Oursense, a highlight is the Monastery at Oseira. You can get a tour of this huge historic place in the afternoon and attend...
Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated …. And relatable.
I think the Camino is like some sort of organic medicine or yeast that can take months or years to produce its final result.
I walked VDLP from Sevilla in autumn 2022 and just the other day I had the feeling that the fruits of that Camino...
I would not say ‘true pilgrim’ but a normal human - will help you out. I always kindly / humbly ask for what I need (which is not always what I want) and invariably get looked after.
If you do end up being landed with a top bunk - after getting to the albergue early etc - ask around for a...
I’m not sure I can separate the physical from the emotional and spiritual.
But ….When I was approaching 70 I thought I didn’t have another Camino in me. At that point the body was not in the best of health.
Much to my surprise, factors collaborated, the Camino called, and I walked the whole...
Lots of good advice already so I will add a little of my research
All rain gear these days is breathable, which means in a real downpour you will get wet. The only type of rain gear that will keep you completely dry is some non-breathable plastic - Which would not be very comfortable to use...
I use Camino Ninja exclusively for my route map which is marked in bright red.
I started using this app before the owner died. I’m sorry I can’t remember his name.
It became unavailable but previous downloads still worked - just weren’t being updated.
It’s up and running again. You might try...
Last Camino I mainly used email (or called the venue) and received prompt replies (to my mind) within 12 - 18 hours. If I didn’t hear back it always turned out that venue was closed.
I didn’t always book but when I did it was 1-2 days ahead.
I didn’t worry but then I know I can rough it for...
