    Starting the Camino in Bayonne

I walked it mid-March last year. First day along the River to Cambo was a very relaxing start. Second day is beautiful countryside but I lost my way, taking a wrong road after about an hour. The route seemed very poorly marked and I was relying on a map off the internet (attached with notes) but...

    Muxia or Finisterre First?

Coming out of Muxia is certainly steeper but they have provided benches at very short intervals to stop and take a breath. Personally I prefer short and sharp to a long never-ending drag. I would also recommend Muxia first because the route into Muxia from Olveiroa through Dumbria, is very...

    Starting 80k before SJPdP…..

Yes, I went at least 5k out of my way because of a yellow cross which I presumed meant "not that way". Best to ignore signs and use phone. A lesson learnt but it was lovely walking. Do it again one day.

    Starting 80k before SJPdP…..

I walked from Bayonne in march this year, stopping at Cambo les Bains and Helette. Lovely walking but no signs worth trusting. Need good map reading or GPX especially for the second day.

    Renting horses to O Cebreiro

Last year, arrived in Las Herrerias after following the Dragonte route so feeling very tired I asked in the albergue about the horses which are mentioned in Brierley. They phoned him and he came round and arranged everything. He organised my very light bag to go in a van to an albergue which he...

    Unusual places to collect sellos/stamps

Most unusual stamp on my Camino was on the canal boat to Fromista. Sitting by the canal, eating my picnic lunch, I was invited to sail the last few km of the day. After paying the ferryman, he stamped my credencial.

How did you get to the Camino (not the travel part)

My wife and I spoke about it many times but always found other things to do. Then she developed Alzheimers and 5 years later passed away in 2020. I did the Camino this year and it was a wondeful, healing experience, with many memories. I urge you do it now, make the memories together now as you...

    Municipal Albergue Ages

Stayed there in late March. The welcome was wonderful and the young lady, Sylvia I think, was very helpful on sights to look at in the village. Food was one of the best along the whole Camino.
