I walked it on Tuesday and there was no problem with the stream. As has been mentioned the stop at the cafeteria beside the service station is ideal.
The terrain is not too difficult.
Started in Seville on 13th, conditions good, high temperatures in the afternoons.
I have planned out my stages to my stopping point-Salamanca and was planning on doing a very long stage from Carcaboso to Aldeanueva as per Gronze; not taking the Via Verde. Gerald Kelly’s guidebook refers to...
Thanks Gerald. The map is really helpful. I will have to put in a few really long days but it should be ok if the weather is reasonable. At least there are no steep climbs like the Del Norte and Primitivo.
I am starting on the VDLP on April 12th. From what I see online temperatures should be in the mid 20's but of course temps are rising each year.
I am an experienced older walker and have completed the other big caminos straight in recent years except for the Del Norte which I did half and half...
I am interested to hear that. I am thinking of ordering but I see it is 2000mm waterproof which when I look it up is not a high spec. My current one is 10000mm. Maybe there is some other aspect to this.
Someone knowledgeable on this might comment.
Hi Mike
Nice to hear from you. Unfortunately you are a day ahead of me. I just get to Oviedo on 14th, taking a look around the next day, so start walking on 16th. Might get to Oviedo in afternoon of 14th or it could be evening-depends how lucky I am with the trains. I will certainly message if...
Hi Kirkie I am very interested in this thread and particularly your comments on Meindls. I also buy in Great Outdoors and have used the Meindl Responds shoes on the CF and CP. Also use the boots for some local climbing (eg Croagh Patrick). Just bought shoes Meindl Journey Pro GTX, still in...
Thanks to all for replies. I can see that even with Aer Lingus, it might work and it might not so to avoid stress, I have decided to travel a day early. My plan is to attend Mass in Oviedo Cathedral to see the Sudario de Oviedo. So I will travel on 14th and start walking on 16th.
I will arrive Madrid Airport (Adolfo Suarez) on Sept 15th at 10am from Dublin. There is a train to Oviedo from Chamartin at 11.10am. Would I have sufficient time to get from airport to station to get this train assuming no flight delays.
Thanks. John
I hope to start the Primitivo from Oviedo on Sept 15th flying Dublin to Madrid on 14th. I have done the full Camino Frances and Portuguese. Are there likely to be many on the Primitivo at that time?. I am happy to walk alone but given the nature of the terrain and to avoid getting lost, I would...
