    Pre-booking

I found that many hotels still have unbooked rooms. I didn’t book any in advance and still found a hotel to sleep in when I wanted one instead of an albergue. The only one I booked in advance is Orisson because it’s the only one between SJPP and Roncesvalles, assuming you want to cut that day...

    Blister product advice

I used to get blisters on the ball of my feet every hike until I found the right sock for me. Now I only get one on my little toe. I’ve learned to live with it, but before I go on my trip next week, I figured I’d ask. Does anyone have any recommendations for a product to prevent a recurring...

    Trail Trekkers

Go to a shipping store and get a mailing tube. Put the poles in, tape it shut, and check it. The only gear I worry about losing in checked luggage are my boots because they're broken in. Everything else can be easily, if expensively, replaced.

Smart Packing and Unexpected Backpack Items

Lidocaine gel. A dab on blisters and you won't feel them for a while. Use sparingly, ask your doctor first, and for the love of Santiago, do NOT put it on chafed skin (yes, that was me screaming in the bathroom).

    Training - dedicated or general

The last time I walked the Camino was in 2013. I prepped by doing a lot of hikes with a full backpack. I'm going back in October. I've recently lost 127 pounds, and I'm focused mostly on maintaining my workout regimen: 4 days of weight lifting, 3 of running, and 1 of doing whatever I want...
