I walked CF from 1-26 September and didn’t have any trouble finding places to stay. At the start I reserved ahead by a day or two, but once I got used to things, I changed to just turning up. I thought it was pretty quiet, with just seeing a few people each day, until getting to Sarria, when it...
I’ve just walked part of that route today, into Oncina de la Valdoncina and can confirm it is well sign posted. It’s certainly a blessed relief after all the roads and urban sprawl of Leon
From reading threads before coming here, I was expecting to see lots of people all the time. I’ve found it comes and goes - I can walk for ages completely alone, sometimes with the sight of a few in front of me, and then there might be a few bunches of people to pass, or walk with.
I started my first Camino Frances on 1st September from SJPdP and after 9 wonderful (wet and sunny) days am now at Cardenuela Riopico. I’m very pleased to report I’ve not had any difficulties in finding a bed. I’ve been either just turning up, or reserving a bed 2 days in advance.
This thread has got me wondering what it is to be a pilgrim (other than the verses I sang as a choirboy). I would ask here, but that would probably just get my post deleted 😊. Can anyone point me at an acceptable site that provides a definition of pilgrim and pilgrimage?
Thanks again for the great information. I hadn’t really considered there would be a choice, so yet another thing for me to consider during my walk. Compostela or Welcome certificate? If I’m true to how I start my walk, then it will be the certificate, which would be great to receive. Presume I...
As a newcomer to this site and the Camino, hope you don’t mind me adding some comments.
Having read a few of the many topics on this amazing site, there have been a few that have made me wonder why someone would say such a thing, as it’s rude or belittling. However, they have been in the...
Hey Stina,
I’m taking on the CF for the first time this year, starting from SJPdP on September 1st. I’ve done lots of trail running/walking around the Alps and know my feet prefer soft/supple rather than hard, so I soak mine and rub off hard skin with an emery board. Yours may be different, so...
Possibly a daft question, but as I’ve decided to find places to sleep after completing my distance for the day, I was wondering how I go about finding somewhere! Are there signposts/banners or anything that indicate where the various Albergues are, or do I need to use my guidebook/App/map to...
Hello everyone,
I’ve been getting so much information on here, reading all (some!) of the threads, so thank you all for sharing.
I’m starting my first Camino Frances journey from SJPDP on 1st September this year, so getting pretty excited about it now. I’ve decided to just book my first night...
