    Two backpacks?

We used JacoTrans. Bag transport service is excellent on the Camino Frances. (Haven’t experienced Dos Faros!) Every pickup and delivery was on time on two- and three-week Caminos in 2019, 2021 and 2023. Before each trip began, we decided how far we wanted to walk each day. We had a travel...

What are your favorite Camino misspellings on the forum?

Jo, the Spanish pronunciation of “Cho” would be pretty close to the English pronunciation of Jo.

Madrid to SJPP in one day?

Last month the Alsa bus from Pamplona to SJPP was nice, comfortable and full of other pilgrims. The bus left at noon. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time overnight in Pamplona beforehand. Also enjoyed arriving in SJPP with part of a day to spend there. It’s a good idea to book in advance at...

    European SIM - data-only or talk/text?

I’m on the Camino Frances now with a 20 Euro SIM from Vodaphone that gives me a month of data in Europe with Spain-only talk and text. I was happy to be able to call a taxi driver over the last couple of days and it is great to have access to Wise Camino and Google Maps; we took the wrong Camino...

Suggestions for a place in Pamplona to spend 2-3 nights before stating CF?

The bus station is not far from the center of Pamplona, maybe 15 - 20 minute walk.

Suggestions for a place in Pamplona to spend 2-3 nights before stating CF?

Hola, Marska, I stayed two nights at the Pamplona Catedral hotel and enjoyed everything immensely. Comfortable room and bath right near the Cathedral, castle walls, and main plaza of Pamplona. I booked two nights not only to relax and see the sights but also to allow a cushion of time ahead of...

    Quirky Museums on the Camino

Yes, by all means, visit the telephone museum in Villar de Mazarife. The owner is charming and knowledgable. His museum offers an excellent history of telecommunications in Spain.

    Cash vs Credit or Debit

Yes! And at end of each Camino I like to bring home an extra 200 Euro (or more) so I’m always ready for a future trip.

    Rain pants

    Ponchos are a popular alternative.

Oct. 7, 2021, we stopped for photos by the giant hand.

Rely on wifi or get a data plan?

I, too, have AT&T from US. The 20-Euro SIM I bought in Spain was far better for me than what AT&T offers: $10 a day for any day the phone is used outside USA. The Spanish SIM gave me so much data I could use my phone all the time, for a whole month. Well worth the expense! ¡Buen Camino!

    Translation please?

And Google gets it when I use Galician as the language I’m translating from.

Is it easier just to fly to Madrid to start the Frances?

Yes, flying in and out of Madrid is often least expensive and also easiest. Last October, we flew in and out of Madrid. Took the ALSA bus to Pamplona from the airport a few hours after landing. Had one easy bus change in Zaragoza. Stayed overnight in Pamplona, then took the ALSA bus to St...

Requesting some thoughts (re starting point) from experienced pilgrims, please?

I vote for adding the extra days! I walked that section in October, 2019, and loved it all. There are always wonderful people to talk with on the Camino and those less-crowded sections seem to facilitate conversation. Comfortable, lightweight rain gear was helpful as we often had light rain or...
