For those who might want to transport a bag, here are the envelopes of two companies. The envelopes can be found at most places to stay along the Camino. Fill out the info and slip the money in. You must notify the company by phone call or WhatsApp. If an albergue doesn’t accept bags they will...
There has been some discussion about getting one way tickets to have more flexibility. Unfortunately I had to cut my Camino short because I was getting shin splints. Because I had a flexible ticket, which of course is more expensive, I booked my flight back a week early for no additional cost...
I use NCS bag transfer. They speak English. They (and other transfer companies) leave their envelopes in hotels and albergues. NCS charges 6 euro that you slip in the envelope and attach to your bag. On the envelope you write the destination of the bag. You must contact them via phone call or...
I’m in Spain now and have been to both Orange and Vodaphone and both say they can’t help me because I have an e-sim.
Im going back to Vodaphone again this afternoon and show them an article from Apple support. Otherwise, I guess I’ll buy one of those plans mentioned in this thread
I haven’t walked the entire Camino in a while. But I wonder what the situation is with blankets. You could carry a lighter bag and hope. The few albergues I stayed in on my short Camino last year had them. Of course you don’t want to be caught out. But I bet the Hospitaleros have some blankets...
You could take a bus to Bilbao, stay at hotel ILUNION which is across the street. In the morning you could take the airport shuttle (cash only) to the airport.
I walked Toribio in '07 so can't give you current advice. I will just say that I learned about it from the hospitalio in San Vincete. He gave me a small piece of paper with a hand drawn map in pencil. I made it just fine, and the walk was a high light. You'll be fine too.
Hi Janet and Phil, I love reading about you. (that’s the plural you or should I say yuz) and your experiences. You make the worst situation sound like an adventure!
I wish I could get back on the Camino and be a Hospitalera again. Especially now that a call has gone out. I will start saving my...
I used a Kammok Bobcat 45. Expensive but extremely lightweight, packs down to nothing and warm. It’s also something you can use at home after the Camino. I carried a silk liner but never used it.
Hi Stewart,I have used sealskin socks, (no inner socks, but I don’t see why not). I wore Chaco sandals with an innersole gorilla-glued on. I like the adjustable strap on the Chacos.
For rain I had a knee-length rain coat and a lightweight umbrella. I didn’t have problems with rain getting in...
The Bilbao airport is small. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding the bus that will take you to the main Bus/metro station. Pay the driver in coin.
I hope you can catch a bus to Logrono but if not there is a hotel very near the main bus station called Hotel Estadio that I stayed in. Or...
