Last September I walked the Camino from St. Jean through to Santiago. It took me 6 weeks, I averaged about 20 km per day, sometimes more, sometimes less with the occasional day off in Burgos, Leon, and on or two other places There were a few days when I took a bus to avoid " mule killer"...
These places have expenses, and depending where you are in Spain, and how dry the year is, water may even be rationed. Even here at home, when I use the gas station rest rooms, if I am not buying gas, i buy a package of chewing gum or maybe a newspaper. It costs little, and beats the heck out...
Fear not, I walked the same route and the same time last year. The crowds are a tad thinner but still lots around :) You will find a "camino Family" and will watch out for each other all the way.
Very true! There is usually, olive oil, rice and pasta available in the kitchen, also some minimal seasonings like salt and pepper. No need in buying it again.
