Alex, I haven't posted for some years but your post kind of instigated me to reply.
I was a total newbie when first on the camino way back then. - My son said to me (after retirement): "Mom, your life content cannot now be your daily walk to the supermarket and back". That was after my long and...
Hello WheelChairPilgrim,
Ivar, our lovely guru around here and site owner, posted a couple of years ago a link showing and explaining in quite some detail the challenges you might encounter on various stretches of the camino frances.
It was accompanied by a great number of photos from the...
Well, for what it is worth (and not camino related), when rather young, I and a girlfriend met a flasher/masturbatur when we walked in a wood (we used to walk there). Somehow we did not feel threatened - we kind of giggled and walked away.
At a rather later time, I and another girlfriend sat on...
Just checked my notes, and can see I took a little sit-down rest there at the Capilla, benches being around (benches generally a welcome sight - at least for me).
I also noted in my diary (what I intended as a funny aside in my notes), that pilgrims (mostly women) would regularly take a short...
Scruffy, I actually heard and saw Pablo Casals in concert in Copenhagen as late as sometime between 1967 - 1969 (the exact year escapes me) - and he was certainly still going strong even though rather old at the time. He was totally alone on stage for the whole concert. It was amazing - and of...
I admit to not taking the descent from Alto del Perdon. Had a look down there and decided to circumvent it (have balancing problems going down - something with my eyesight also - cannot judge distance about where I am setting my foot.
So I circumvented on a lovely road - no traffic, eagles...
I will second that. Out of Leon, take a taxi or bus to La Virgen del Camino and then take the beautiful route to Villar de Mazarife (towards the left when the route splits).
I would also suggest to avoid the long and tedious trek into Burgos.

As Falcon said, Claireabela.
'Upscale' restaurants will most likely accept cards (ask first) and probably most hotels, but not smaller places - i.e. never albergues and in my experience hostales or B and B places.
Some larger supermarkets (supermercados) in larger towns may accept cards - but...
Backiej, sorry, but the only advice I can subscribe to is to drink lots of water. - It is on old women's tale that cinnamon will help lower your glucose numbers (the theory has been shot down again and again ... - and never heard about the coffee theory.
Sorry, I know we should not give medical...
Rajy, oh my dear - so sorry for you.
You - being diabetic - are probably already very well aware that foot sores (and any sores at that) may take a long time to heal (meaning risk of infection and further calamities). (Am a diabetic myself).
Please take the advice of any doctors you see, and...
I carried two credit cards too. -
One (the back-up card) was deeply ensconced in my backpack, which I would regularly leave in the albergue - so short of walking off with my backpack, it would have taken some lengthy search to get to it - and I believe that such an activity would have been...
In Ledigos (after Carrion de los Condes) I met a 70 year old British doctor walking with his long time buddies - said he was out testing his replacement hip and two new knees ...
He told that in order to not be a potential burden to his companions, he always made sure to carry the phone number...
I for one loved the Meseta. Had gotten the impression – before walking – that it would be flat, flat … and boring - but it was certainly not so. Lovely views, lovely high skies, lovely ambiance in flowers and surrounding fields. And certainly not always flat!
The only time I was a bit...
When walking out of Burgos, I thought that I would find a café along the road. Alas, not so! – Walking down that long avenue along the Universities on one side and a walled park on the other side, I came in dire need (only a # 1). I even thought of invading one of the university buildings. But...
So if you are carrying a pepper spray - illegal or not? I would suppose you would feel the need to carry it in your hand all the time of walking at a perceived 'dangerous' stretch in case a 'situation' came up? - in order to not need to dig it out of your backpack or whatever ...
And then...
I was totally paranoid in an albergue in Astorga (won't name its name though). Ancient building. From the second floor I could look down to the first floor through the slatted boards. And below the first floor was an open kitchen just close to the wooden staircase going up. A true fire trap. -...
As a probably fellow Dane (?), I would not opt for ECCO sandals however great they may be for daily or long term walk on certain/many local stretches in Denmark. (I do use ECCO's in daily life but I do not have personal acquaintance with the brands you mention).
Personally, I walked in some...
Laura, It is very difficult to predict the weather, even in the same months from one year to another.
All I can say is that when I walked (from early May 2012), I was fortunate in the weather keeping mostly dry. A bit coolish in the mornings where I needed to wear my fleece, but that would...
My totally magic moment occurred on the walk from Villafranca Montes de Oca to St. Juan de Ortega – a beautiful stretch – lots of ups and down – beautiful surroundings.
At one time during the walk, I sat down to take a rest, watched all the tiny brightly blue butterflies flittering around me...
In all honesty - would I myself have met him - I wouldn't have labelled him as a con artist! I may even go so far as to say that he might have been pleasant company - ha!. But at a wink of an eye - and at the slightest hint that he would wish to exploit me in whichever way, I would have dropped...
