standard of living/quality of life in Spain

Having lived in Spain for 8 months last year, I think it's much more than just income. What I see in a lot of Spain is an inclusive culture, not dominated by income and expenditure, but by family and community. So, in the small town where I lived, if the weather was good everyone was out in the...

    Bus times Monbus

The site works fine for me, but it looks like tickets are only available until the end of May.

    Bus times Monbus

I think it just means the tickets haven't been released yet. There will be a bus, but you need to wait to buy tickets.

    Passport stamps

Hotels will certainly have a stamp (you might need to ask). You can also get stamps from cafes, bars, churches etc.

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

Wine is almost always included in the menu del dia. Sometimes even a whole bottle. I haven't walked from Sarria but last year I was paying €11 for a menu del dia in non-touristy Asturias. The bus station in Oviedo did menu del dia with a half-bottle of wine for €13.50.

How much cash to take for cash-only Camino purchases

Most of the time what you need cash for are small purchases. Many cafes have minimum amount for card transactions. Coffees, drinks and snacks are cheap, so it you are travelling alone it can be hard to meet build up a €10 bill before it's time to move on. If you stay at donativo albergues you...

Message from the Roncesvalles albergue - a difficult day.

I don't know about that. There were some comments about naked Germans not long ago!

    Weight limit on transported bags

I think it's around 15kg, but you should check the website of the company you intend to use.

    Partially unplugging from the world

Remove communication apps and email accounts that you don't need from the phone. Advise anybody who may need to get in touch with you of your "emergency" email address.

    How much cash to bring?

I think there used to be a minimum charge per transaction (somewhere between 10-15c.) which made it prohibitively expensive to take cards for small value transactions. So you might pay 2 or 3% on a €10 transaction but 10% or more on a €1 payment. That's generally the reason for the minimum...

Buying hiking poles along the Primitivo route

Generally Spanish shops do not open on Sunday, except for a few convenience stores. You could order online from Decathlon and have them delivered to your accommodation in Oviedo (check with them first, of course).

Is this powered USB hub setup safe?

Yes, the whole spur (rather than ring main) will be fused centrally at 16A, which means you can draw 16A at one socket, but certainly not at every socket at the same time. Most appliances will not draw 16A, though, certainly not a phone charger.

    Alert Theft at Roncesvalles

It's not about effort. I always leave the terrace door open because I like air in my house. I don't need to lock everything because I live in a village that is safe.

    Alert Theft at Roncesvalles

I think it depends a bit. You may lock your door every time you leave the house, but some of us live in places where that is not necessary. Having said that, I wouldn't go away overnight and leave my door open.

Is this powered USB hub setup safe?

13 amps at European voltage is more like 3,000 watts. When I worked in UK theatres we used 10 amp lighting circuits, which amounts to about 2,500 watts, but it depends on the exact voltage. It used to be 250v at one time in the UK but now 240v, I think.

    Rip off Restaurant

€5.60 for a cappuccino and a chicken Caesar baguette in Piraeus, Greece this morning. That's in a cheap chain coffee and snack place. You could easily pay double around the corner.

Return journey from Santiago to the north east of England

I saw Ryanair flights on Skyscanner just the other day. That's how I found out about the cheap flights from Madrid.

    Poncho in SJPDP?

I'm not sure you will find things in general cheaper in st. Jean. In parts of Spain, maybe. Since you've already bought a poncho, if you're happy with it, stick with what you've got.

I can't either. Edit: All good for me now.
