.. about as much charcoal as would fit in cupped hands and typically a couple of heaped teaspoons of incense, though some priests are more flaithiúlach than others with it. Too much will choke it, apparently.
Outside of about a dozen specific holy days, it's by paid subscription and you might get lucky. Or, if you want to be guaranteed, you can book and pay for it yourself (or together with friends) and get reserved seating.
But it's not swinging anywhere for now, it's been out of action for more...
I don't think he was doing that in fairness. The application form does ask about about pilgrim/volunteering experience too.
Anyway, all is good.. enjoy your stint in Santiago.
It's not misleading at all🙄..
The PO are primarily concerned about how well you can relate to pilgrims, and about your attitude and your ability to communicate, to be kind, helpful and understanding. Being one yourself is a good place to start.
Your education and what you did or do in the...
If you mean a separate entrance from the albergue? Yes, it's on the other side. The number of volunteers varies between four and eight, it depends. You'll have your own room, meals depend on the dynamics of the group.. sometimes they share, sometimes they do their own thing.
Don’t sweat it...
The thurible is only one small element of the botafumeiro, there is the whole pully mechanism and supporting structure, a considerable weight..
If there was any doubt about its integrity, and this would appear to be the case, there would need to be a very thorough inspection of the whole system...
Unless I'm reading things wrong, parking up for a week or so, with a car on spanish plates, won't be any big deal and there's lots of free parking around SdC on street/off street.
OP.. Enjoy Christmas camino!
I don't have much to add.. some regular volunteers do get to arrive spontaneously and work just a few days, if it suits all..
But the universal thing about volunteering work, whatever it may be and wherever it is:
It takes some days just to get up to speed and into the rhythm of things, that's...
Well no, not always. This was touched on recently and I think it's worth mentioning again. If there's room enough in a 'closed' credential for more stamps, it can be used again for another camino and the new set of stamps 'closed' end to end with the cathedral stamp when it's presented again for...
Me neither.. when my kids comment to me that I shouldn't eat them because they're intelligent, I remind them that if they were that smart, they wouldn't end up 'a feira'..
Nice affordable looking menu in that place! I must check it out next time in SdC..
Sheets, blankets and towels are provided at San Lãzaro.. a bus pass too if you need it, though I walked the 3km or so to and from the PO every day. If you want to know anything more specific about volunteering there, you are welcome to PM me..
Jabbapapa..
In September/October 2022, I "wrote" approximately 550 compostelas.
In April/May 2023 I "printed" approximately 650 compostelas.
Your own compostela wouldn't have been any different to anyone else's. As qualifying pilgrims, we are all entitled to the same, and there is no...
Your own document was written 7 months ago. At that time yours and everyone else's was handwritten.
This is May 2023. There is now a new process at the Pilgrim's Office, which the OP was enquiring about and your own comments about last year are irrelevant.
Please don't refer to my comments as...
This is not the case.
The OP wasn't asking about the process in October 2022 when everything was handwritten.
The only thing that will be handwritten into a compostela now is a second surname if it doesn't come out in the print, nothing else.
Sorry, I've pointed you wrong here. 'Otro Caminos' won't allow you to put Le Puy as a starting point, but in this case it's fine to just put in any starting point when registering on your phone. Once at the desk, it can be modified on the screen before printing to Camino Frances & Camino...
As the current registration stands, you should put 'otros caminos' and the starting point as Le Puy initally. This can be ammended as Camino Frances and Camino Sanabres at the desk if you want a distance certificate. Assuming you have sellos to show progress along both stretches, your distance...
It's also a great idea and it's required, to write your own details in your credential too. Half the pilgrims that present them appear to be too lazy or too dopey to bother. Email or whatsapp number no harm too.. wiĺl help reunite you with it, should you lose it.
The process as far as pilgrims are concerned, hasn't changed since last year, though the overall process is now much faster. However, it's important to be careful about the accuracy of your details such as starting date, route(s) and most importantly, the spelling of your name, as your...
