Alex, I haven't posted for some years but your post kind of instigated me to reply.
I was a total newbie when first on the camino way back then. - My son said to me (after retirement): "Mom, your life content cannot now be your daily walk to the supermarket and back". That was after my long and...
Hello WheelChairPilgrim,
Ivar, our lovely guru around here and site owner, posted a couple of years ago a link showing and explaining in quite some detail the challenges you might encounter on various stretches of the camino frances.
It was accompanied by a great number of photos from the...
Scruffy, I actually heard and saw Pablo Casals in concert in Copenhagen as late as sometime between 1967 - 1969 (the exact year escapes me) - and he was certainly still going strong even though rather old at the time. He was totally alone on stage for the whole concert. It was amazing - and of...
I admit to not taking the descent from Alto del Perdon. Had a look down there and decided to circumvent it (have balancing problems going down - something with my eyesight also - cannot judge distance about where I am setting my foot.
So I circumvented on a lovely road - no traffic, eagles...
I will second that. Out of Leon, take a taxi or bus to La Virgen del Camino and then take the beautiful route to Villar de Mazarife (towards the left when the route splits).
I would also suggest to avoid the long and tedious trek into Burgos.

As Falcon said, Claireabela.
'Upscale' restaurants will most likely accept cards (ask first) and probably most hotels, but not smaller places - i.e. never albergues and in my experience hostales or B and B places.
Some larger supermarkets (supermercados) in larger towns may accept cards - but...
I carried two credit cards too. -
One (the back-up card) was deeply ensconced in my backpack, which I would regularly leave in the albergue - so short of walking off with my backpack, it would have taken some lengthy search to get to it - and I believe that such an activity would have been...
I for one loved the Meseta. Had gotten the impression – before walking – that it would be flat, flat … and boring - but it was certainly not so. Lovely views, lovely high skies, lovely ambiance in flowers and surrounding fields. And certainly not always flat!
The only time I was a bit...
When walking out of Burgos, I thought that I would find a café along the road. Alas, not so! – Walking down that long avenue along the Universities on one side and a walled park on the other side, I came in dire need (only a # 1). I even thought of invading one of the university buildings. But...
I also relied on cash payments, the exception being when I occasionally opted for a hotel (but not in hostales, pensiones, casas rurales or shops). Yes, as David said, I believe that they in many places have a 'special' system circumventing receipts (and maybe thus taxation?).
I myself brought...
Personally, I think that newbies hitting on this forum come here to get some real person to person contacts -whether a question has been asked before or not.
I would suggest to give them some leeway. Many/most are heading out for a totally new experience and may feel somewhat insecure...
I will say all of the above.
For myself, I carried one credit card readily available in my pouch, and then another one deeply ensconced in my backpack - not obvious unless my backpack was physically carried away and thoroughly searched.
Also, I used the strategy to only use ATMs when the...
Jhv, I would certainly think that you may not get so much attention at that time of year. And if so, just fall back in your walking pace and contact another pilgrim to ask if you could walk with him/her.
If you are really worried, I would suggest that you take a really shrill flute along - put...
I lost a pair of black knickers put on my bathroom windowsill to dry in my hotel in Los Arcos. - Next morning I looked to see where they might have landed, but the good people in Los Arcos obviously do not favour black knickers on the church plaza before Sunday morning mass.

Well, glad to say that once I became the heroine of the day (in the albergue in Zariquei). Seated around the dinner table (dinner provided by/bought from the owner - no access to kitchen) - there were bottles of unopened wine on the table. Panic was on the rise. Luckily I then recalled where I...
Hej, Anotherpilgrim. - I would suppose you are from Denmark ? (the link you posted) as am I. You are welcome to PM me. I might even have some equipment that I could lend to you.
Best, annelise
PM = Private converstation
'Unfit' as to outrunning a bear, 'fit' as a candidate for accompanying a faster runner with a bear at our heels :)
- but as to outrunning a 'beer', that is quite another equation ... ;)

Ha :) - so now I see the reason why a walking companion is occasionally sollicited! - And of course the most unfit and elderly person will be the choice ... (I fear I would myself be an obiously fit candidate here :()

Yes you can!
A previous member of the forum told me that she loaned the shoes of her daughter and off she went!
I took courage from her post, and off I went – elderly, somewhat unfit and with no expectations (my son had said to me that there must be more to my life than my daily walk to the...
