Confidence in what you can and can't do, comes from doing the exact thing that you are worried about. I do not know when your pilgrimage will take place, but if you have time pursue walking with your backpack on, carrying same approximate weighted load.

“Some mention that, with a hydration pack, you don't have to stop to drink. I see that as a drawback. I think it is a good idea to stop when you drink. Your body gets a needed rest, even if just for a few minutes, and you get some deep sips of water as needed.“
I appreciate that yours is the...
What I do is take time off. I make sure I am fully hydrated and that I am fully replenished with food and calories. Then I make sure I am getting a good nights sleep with a plan to sleep in, or at least have a very leisurely wakeup. Then a good breakfast, a relaxed walk around the location I am...
Perhaps volunteering with the Pilgrim Office in St Jean Pied de Port would be useful for you. That office already provides service to assist with up to the minute weather reports and route conditions, as well as assist with lodgings, eateries, etc. You might be of help with that effort quite nicely.
Exactly. What is meant is that one can feel energized refreshed and full of excitement, etc. . . and start off at a very rapid pace that matches those feelings. The effect will be to quickly deplete stored glycogen to a level of exhaustion that cannot be recovered from during the rest of the...
I do establish a need for regular stops in the post. Once the rest stop time is established - depending on conditioning it can be every 15 minutes to every hour. The focus is as you indicated, continue to that rest stop point at a level of pace that avoids the need to stop before reaching the...
Tips For Uphill Walking
If a person has some level of cardio fitness, making it up a long uphill grade is a matter of pace, maintaining calorie intake, hydration, and utilizing meaningful breaks.
1. As you head uphill, adjust your pace to a comfortable level which you are able to maintain...
Yup. That, and aside from being courteous and making an effort to not be a nuisance to others, I simply do not care what others think about my personal decisions or choices. . . they are not up for a vote. :-)
The issue as Gerald points out is not just the peak elevation reached while walking uphill. The correct measurement on a route is its TOTAL elevation gain. That means that along a route, it how much you go up and down hills BEFORE you get to the top, as well as how much elevation is gained from...
Without permission, graffiti is vandalism no matter the cuteness or artistry. If I want to see graffiti vandalism, the streets of any urban area would give me my fill. I would prefer a camino without the scrawling's of a thoughtless person imposing their narcissistic 'look at me' footprint.
I...
trecile referenced a guide I wrote, so let me approach this the way I would do a 'just in case' on camino where I am parched, I drank the last of my water and am a long distance from a potable water supply. I see a fuente or old water tap in a park that is unmarked of labeled non-potable.

Just to clarify, it is beneficial to go to visit the Pilgrim office in SJPdP, but there is no required registration. There is good information about current weather conditions, and you can obtain a Credencial there. They can also assist in finding lodging if one arrives without reservations...
As far as I can tell from John Sikora's YouTube channel he has three of the stages converted to 3d, including the Napoleon and the Valcarlos routes. I haven't viewed them in 3d so can't comment on them, though John generally does a great job with the footage he has to work with.
To save time Express Bouricott will provide a quicker way to SJPdP.

Dusk is determined by what day of the year you are walking, but assuming a 7pm time frame, that is 6 hours of walking straight with no rest stops. That would be an average of...
There is also one for the Napoleon Route. It is a video that I recorded for John during one of my pilgrimages from SJPdP to SdC. John did the editing, then added that video into his series playlist "Camino Frances Day-By-Day" so that both routes were available for viewers to watch.
