Current volume of pilgrims on Salvador?

Thanks, good info, I must remember to take weather on the Salvador into my planning, the bus makes sense. I was thinking to walk, I would branch off at La Baneza towards Villar de Mararife then into Virgen Del Camino and then taxi into central Leon. Regards

@fb1, how did did you link to Leon from the la Plata? I have been looking at walking into Leon from the cut off toward Astorga to continue up to the Norte in September! Thanks

    Backpack size

For what it's worth, I have carried a Osprey 65 and two different style Osprey 50's The 65 was when I carried a tent and bulky a sleeping. The 50 offers room so I am not jamming and cramming, but the most important for me is how the harness rides on my body. The first 50 was never comfortable...

Alert Two reports of agressive dogs just after Oseira

Luka, you want to suggest to the pilgrim rabies shots if it broke the skin! I don't use FB, I won't go into my rabies story but in the end I was glad I got the shots!

    Cold nights in summer?

I have been cold at night in Pamplona, 6/29 and Leon, 7/13 wearing a tee shirt, long sleeve shirt and a fleece in layers. In general a fleece or what is called a down sweeter or vest should be fine. Remember weight!

    Hiking with a tent

On my first Camino in 2008 I walked with my brother and we both carried tents. We camped in the rough on a hill top outside of Los Arocs. This was interesting because we came across old foxholes positioned to overlook the town and crossroads, I assumed they were from the civil war. We then...

Any suggestions for a technical shirt with the performance of Merino but without the drawbacks?

Recycled soda bottles, but I had success with these on the Primitivo in 2019 and since. https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-long-sleeved-capilene-cool-trail-shirt/24486.html They also have a short sleeve version which I wear year round.

    Backpack Pick

I carry a Osprey Stratos 50, I chose it because the harness is very comfortable. It's features are great, they are a blend of my first two pack. It also works great for all of the different types of hiking I do at home. https://www.rei.com/product/111281/osprey-stratos-50-pack-mens Comfort with...

    Weather Porto to Santiago

I use this https://www.sat24.com/en-gb/country/pt and this https://www.windy.com/-Satellite-satellite?satellite,39.229,-22.816,5 As well as AccuWeather! The trend looks like showers for the next week, the fetch is from the WSW with moisture feeding in from post topical storm Tammy.

    Walking after arthroscopic knee surgery

Two months after the third scope and the last of the meniscus in my right knee I walked from SJPD to Santiago. Since then I have completed the Portuguese from Porto and the Primitivo. My left knee is more of a problem since it is simply worn out, but I am still going. I also carried a neoprene...

To take a tent or not to take

I carried a solo tent in 2008 and used it twice. Afterwards I never carried the weight again. I still carry a sleeping pad that only weigh's12 oz.'s which is just a thing I can't seem to drop. I am planning the VdlP and will carry a light weight emergency bivy. Buen Camino.

    Wise Pilgrim app

I used the Wise Pilgrim app with the map downloaded. I wondered off the track in the dark several time. It came in very handy in some of the towns as well. I used it on the Primitivo. and I am sure it will be a wonder on the Portuguese.

Best places to stay and see between Sahagun and Léon?

Many love the Mesta, I am sure it has it's moments. I am not a fan, I have walked it in July, and Sept. I walk from Sahagun to Mansilla de Las Mulas and then take a cab into Leon. It's about 40km, if you start early you will get into Leon with the cab around 16:00. You will love the Primitivo...

Hi CaminoScott, Something to look into, in 2017 I walked the central from Porto to Santiago. I spent a very enjoyable evening at Albergue Quinta Estrada Romana. In a conversation with the proprietor, he mentioned that the only way he could keep the dampness out of his establishment and home...
