Absolutely loved and thoroughly enjoyed the VdlP. My wife and I (both in our mid 60s) walked from Cadiz to Seville (Via Augusta), then started out...just after Easter last year (in fact we walked out of Cadiz on Good Friday). Semana Santa festivities...a clear highlight.
I can only recall one...
I'd hate to see the Compostela removed entirely; however, I would be comfortable with a significant change in the emphasis of actually receiving this document...to reflect its importance. I wouldn't complain if pilgrims were limited to a single Compostela....akin to a sort of Camino birth...
Thanks Lindsay...most helpful. I'm probably the exact opposite. Unfortunately, not a 'free spirit' and would go absolutely crazy if I didn't know where I would be laying my head at night! Will certainly keep an eye on this forum as the months move forward. Very much appreciate your response Lindsay.
Hi Lindsay, I will be very interested in your forward planning. While my wife and I are off to Lisbon this Aug/Sep, I'm already developing a walk for '25...focusing on the Camino del Sureste...out of Alicante. I'd be interested in whether you looked at the Sureste, and why you opted for the...
Following your path in August, and settled on CP route to Tomar. In line with other comments saw Tomar as a town not to miss, and intend taking a rest day here. The following day will bus to Fatima, stay the night, then taxi (seems buses don't run on Monday when we'll be moving on) back to Tomar...
Another shout-out for Villafranca del Bierzo...and restaurant Meson los Ancares. Just superb food, and our host (Signor Gambino)...well what can I say (I think the pic says it all)...just and amazing welcome and hospitality.

Rireana...I was hoping you would say that! We'll be heading to Lisbon later this year for the CP, but following that pilgrimage we'll start active planning for the Sureste pilgrimage out of Alicante...in Sep '25. I'd really like to have you 'on call' to bounce things off as plans start to gel...
Thank you Rireana! Valuable intel indeed as it gives me a planning option. I'm just starting my research for the del Sureste, and from watching the few YouTube videos on this route (and few net-based resources) it seems Petrola is the clear end point of a 23km stage, but with quite limited...
My wife and I are walking this route in mid-August, and from a posting somewhere here I've taken note not to miss Praia dos Cristais de Silleiro (the crystal beach) on the littoral route as you're heading in the direction of Baiona. I've not been here before....but have read some quite...
Trecile...yep...positive. Used it on the Augusta and VdlP. Was definitely my 'go to' for GPS. I can't imagine why anyone would develop a GPS 'map app' that relied on an internet connection.
Thanks for that. Interesting - as I used the Gronze Map App offline for GPS on the iPhone and it worked really well. I tend to also have the other apps you mention...so generally well covered.
Hey KaMkk22...we actually didn't have a guide for the Via Augusta (I certainly couldn't find one); however, I did rely heavily on the Gronze Map App. Couldn't get this one through an App Store, but if you Google Gronze Map App you'll find clear directions for loading directly from Gronze to your...
If you have the opportunity to visit Spain during Semana Santa...take it! My wife and I were in Cadiz for Holy Thursday, and Jerez de la Frontera for Easter Sunday last year. If we can...a repeat visit during Holy Week...would be our goal. Buen Camino.
Oh I don't know Richard...sort of think I'd trade the burbs of Atlanta for ANYWHERE in a soggy Spain right now! That said, in reading the reports coming in, I take my hat off for those enterprising pilgrims on the path right now.
Via Augusta (Cadiz to Seville) is an amazing walk of about five days. Not ideal for the pilgrim wedded to albergue accommodation, but lots of quite nice and very affordable bar/hotels on this route. Walked it this time last year, and will certainly aim to complete again. Then with a further...
