I bought mine in summer '22. I did end up buying rain pants in Palas de Rei and pretty much just wore them from them on. Now I have some nifty lightweight ones from REI I'll bring if I ever walk it again!
Loved my Packa when I walked in the fall '22, but only had about 3 days of rain. It was easy to put on as a pack cover and then pull on over the rest of you while walking when needed, loved the sleeves, two way zipper, pit zips and visor on the hood. I think mine weighed 11 oz/312 gms for a size...
Thank you, I found this site while searching, it looks like this company offers tours with accomodations, is this the only company that offers such? Do you walk with a group or guide or solo? I couldn't tell if they transport your bag each day or if it is expected that walkers carry their...
Greetings, has anyone walked this? It was officially opened in 2017, a 140 km, 87 mile route following sites where the saint lived in the 12th century in Germany. The book "The Hildegard of Bingen Pilgrimage Book" by Annette Essex describes the ten stages of the route but is short on practical...
I used the Packa rain poncho last September to October and loved it, it has sleeves and zips in front so fits closer and doesn't flap around, fits on your pack like a pack cover then you can pull it out to put on without stopping or taking your pack off, in prolonged heavy rain would advise rain...
I decided kilometers are imaginary after the "map my walk" app I tried gave completely different distances than any guidebook, stopped worrying about it and just walked till I got there
I sent a suitcase from SJPDP to Santiago with Express Bourricot, their office is near the Pilgrims office, €70. Pick up is at a hotel in Santiago with 24/7 reception
I was sad to leave behind the Salomon GTX 4 mid hikers that got me from SJPdP to SdC this past September to October, it was like saying goodbye to old friends. I left them in my hotel room after a brief goodbye ceremony where I thanked them for their service. Bought an identical pair when I got...
I took a small down quilt on recent Sept- Oct Camino Francés which I put inside my sleeping bag liner ( large, rectangular) when needed for extra warmth, worked great
It's just that down is the lightest weight, I considered synthetic materials for ease of washing but decided to go with down for the warmth/weight ratio, will carry in waterproof stuff sack ☺️
I just got the Naturehike down quilt from Amazon, ultra lightweight .49 lbs (7.8 oz), dimensions 54.7" x 36.4" which will be fine for me at 5'5" tall, will use with a silk liner either over the top or inside the liner if slippage is a problem. Cost $39.99. I'll be starting from SJPDP Sept 13...
Related to this subject, I have made reservations for the first 4 nights at Orisson, Roncesvalles, Zubiri and Pamplona, do I need to call or email to confirm these reservations before arrival?
Great thank you, I will be looking to do the same before I start from St Jean September 13. I'll have a small suitcase to ship ahead to Santiago for my 2 weeks in Portugal after I finish the Camino (God willing!) From watching Ivar's video it sounded like there could be problems shipping through...
