Free hiking poles, Bilbao, 15 May

Hi, Have I missed the boat?

current status of albergue bed availability on CDN

Hi, I won’t start another thread because I know people here will be able to help me. A friend and I are walking from Bilbao to Comillas next month. Exciting. We want to have our packs transported. Can anyone recommend a service? Also, where in Bilbao can we get our pilgrim passports and what are...

Has the Camino lost its way?

No, the Camino hasn’t lost its way. It changes though. I love doing a route I’ve done before and not recognising it! Nothing stays the same.

Any advice for when you want to quit?

    Such good advice.

    Am I packing too much?

My answer to this question when I ask it is always yes. I keep my pack under 6kg, including 0.5 litre of water. It’s not a sacrifice for me. What I find hard is putting my lunch in my pack! I have never regretted not having something. Someone else has it, or I can buy it. You will have a great time.

Help me slow down my Camino Primitivo

I loved Cornellana. I stayed in the Monesterio.

A breakdown of my Camino Frances costs with a few considerations - May 2023

Thank you for sharing this great information. It is very similar to my experience on the Le Puy this time last year, that is, about 64€ or $100 Australian, each day. I also stayed in many private gites, but walked with friends so shared many expenses.

    How accurate is AccuWeather?

I have found the Accu app uncannily accurate in Spain, even using its hourly forecast to leave or finish early or late and to miss rain or intense heat. I have used it on the Primitivo, La Plata and Frances. Unfortunately it’s hopeless where I live in Australia!

Walking at 4 am. Under a full moon?

    This is my dream too.

Trouble with Accommodation along the Via Podiensis

Yes I agree. I ended up staying 3 nights there! Unexpected, but fabulous. I’m getting itchy feet.

Trouble with Accommodation along the Via Podiensis

Hi Billwerme, this is a fantastic chart. What does pd stand for? I notice it was pretty expensive in Navarrenx.

    Le Puy Camino

If you do this, still call a day or two before hand. I have learned this the hard way after getting lost in the Las Apujarras. We turned up after dark and our room had been given away just a few hours earlier. I last walked the Le Puy route in 2022 and booked my first two nights and the holiday...

    Le Puy Camino

I’ll keep it short and sweet. First thing, it’s fantastic. Second thing, these are my recommendations. Buy a book called ‘Miam Míam Dodo’ when you get to Le Puy. It has all the information you will need. Book into a place in Le Puy and your first night on the Chemin, before you leave home. I can...

Gotta love the scarf. Ooh la la.

Having lunch. What should I get?

I’d ask for 2 primos, it’s not usually a problem. I’d have the chiperones and the ensalada mixta. I wish I was there.

Women who wear shirts.... please share

Country Road. Weeks in, still looking good. It will be a regular addition. $100. No need for specialised walking shirts imo.

Women who wear shirts.... please share

My last Camino I took a Country Road black linen shirt because I was in Paris for a few days first. Beautiful. I wore it over a singlet. It would enhance a smart business look. It washed and dried well. Sleeves up or down and collar too, depending on sun and cold.

A good app for Via Podiensis?

Wise Pilgrim. It’s unanimous so far.

    Sleeping bag versus puffy blanket

I’m sorry, but I’ve cut the label off. I’m one of those ‘every gram counts’ obsessives. I’ll attach a photo. I just went to Target, after walking through about 3 camping goods stores, depressed at the prices and kicking myself for losing my last sleeping bag, and there it was. $10, in the...
