    Doctor in Fão?

Draining is not really recommended and blisters don't often get infected. But, it sounds like your bisters are big. One of the main issues is pain from the blisters. Generally, you usually need to first put on something that is nonstick, such as a large bandaid, then a padding such as moleskin...

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

If it's by about 1 PM on a weekend that is also a holiday. Otherwise, a hostel or albergue not on booking.com and not on some of the hiking apps, is likely the only chance of finding a bed. At least that was my experience last May, in Pamplona, on a Saturday, during a festival.

Beds in First Stage Albergues - Current Situation

I agree. It varies day to day. I did the Frances late May of last year, and despite having a reservation, the Roncesvalle albergue was so overwhelmed that we had to wait 1 hour, 45 min in a queue, to sign in. That night, according to the albergue, all hotel beds were also full. and all beds...

Is 5 days in Finisterre a bad idea?

Finisterre is TINY. You need 1 night to see the sunset at the lighthouse. A second night only if you really need more rest. The coastline between Muxia and Finisterre is incredible--but if you don't want to walk it, the bus from Santiago to Finisterre go along the coast (sit in n the side behind...

Lost & Found Erika! I have your pilgrim passport. Are you in Tineo?

If you don't hear from her, you may want to contact the Pilgrim Center in Santiago and ask that they post a note at the area that hands out the credentials so that they can look for her.

    Albergues in Porto (early June)

Definitely ahead-- at least 1 month. I loved Passenger INN, inside the train station.

    The Pilgrim’s Guide to Etiquette

I think it's a great idea. I think some people are very nice but disturb people because they don't know what the etiquette is--or the owner of the hostel or albergue doesn't post a few guidelines that would really help. For example, a sweet young couple from Asia, were up until 11PM, ...

How to get rid of bed bugs from silk and merino items?

I see 3 choices: 1. Do what the hospitalera insists, and take your chances 2. Go somewhere else 3. Keep items you don't want to wash in a plastic bag, somewhere outside

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

What brand of poncho did your son wear?

    If You Are Sick

    True!!

    If You Are Sick

True, but only a small percentage would be people with bronchitis, especially because people with bronchiectasis often don't have enough lung capacity to walk on the Camino.

    Stomach Bug on Meseta

Actually, some GI infections can very much be site specific. A few years ago, the Norovirus, was affecting hikers in a specific area who had stayed in a specific shelter. Many had to go to a ER. They closed down the sheltered and disinfected the shelter.

    Reverse daily luggage transfer

I have done the Camino Frances (in parts of 40-60 %) four times. I just did the Camino Portuguese and wish I had done it sooner!! I loved it. On days that I gave my back a rest, I used Top Santiago and they were even better than what I used on the Camino Frances.

Small juicer, vegetarians and heating element?

I just finished Camino Portuguese (Porto to Santiago). There are not only grocery stores (Mercardo's), there are also fruit stores everywhere. When I walked the Camino Francis, I was amazed of how many tiny bars could even squeeze their own juice. Really worry about bringing a juicer or a mug...

Where to buy an electric kettle

    Would this work?

Need help deciding to bring or not to bring

My advice--lighten your load as much as you can if you are carrying the backpack yourself. 1. It can get cold My advice: 1. It does get cold sometimes during the summer but if you have the ability to layer (ex: leggings then pants +/- rain pants) then liner only. 2. Leave the kindle if from the...

    Pack Cover Failure

I do too but the OP said the bottom of her pack filled up with water!!! Yikes, all I can think of is possible increased weight from water IN the pack. Is anyone out there anyone out there that has walked this year, in the rain, that has had the same problem?

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

I'm only here to address arriving in Burgos on Easter weekend. I absolutely love Burgos. Be sure to take the option to walk through the park as you get close to Burgos. But I think being in Burgos would rob you of the beauty and enjoyment because of the throngs of people being there. Burgos...

Type 2 Diabetic on the Camino

On my first Camino, nine out of 10 of my toes, had blisters. This is what I learned from that Camino, and a few more: 1. Yes, good footwear is imperative. if toe blisters have been a problem in the past, I would suggest Injinji toe socks then cover with either darn tough or smart wool socks, so...

    SJPdP one night or two?

I came to SJPD overnight from the US via Madrid--bus to Pamplona--share taxi to SJPD so this was a long trip. I saw a few sights such as the Arch on the Camino on my arrival date then only walked to, and stayed in Orisson (3 1/2 hours), the next day. This worked well for me.
