Thanks, but I like your analysis - it never occurred to me to factor in the number of weeks! An obvious omission, dramatically lowering the numbers - although the physical exertion and other stressors would of course increase the risks and likelihood of fatal consequences.
You are probably...
I agree completely, but actually it's those pre-existing medical conditions that make me surprised that we don't have more deaths.
An example: cardiovascular disease is the number one Killer worldwide. The CDC statistics (2021) show that the number one cause of death in the USA is heart...
Yes, but I specifically said 'on the forum'.
Mind you, you have just provided that so I guess there is now!
This is my point actually. With the exception of your good self few people actually bring these incidents to our attention. Personally I have looked for statistics of deaths on camino...
Actually the examples you point to just the tip of the iceberg. As pointed out by @Bradypus, the Spanish Media frequently have reports on these incidents, when the emergency services have been involved. Which to me would strongly suggest that it was 'verified'.
I don't recall a recent broken...
@J Willhaus did the last section from Sarria with some students last December, her excellent thread is here:

Whilst that is normally my experience too, to be fair it totally depends on how many people are in town on the day. And how many are travelling in your individual 'wave'. Even a day can make a difference.
Should you happen to be on the peak of a wave and hit a major town/tourist stop on a...
Geez mate that's rough! Hope the cuts and scratches hesl pretty fast, and that the bruises etc are manageable. Good on you for sharing - I know first hand that it helps.
I hope that the next three weeks go well for you - and without further incident!
Peter
Actually Dick I don't think it's up to the private sector either. And it's got nothing to do with them 'coming up to scratch'. By and large the private sector are doing a fantastic job. Bear in mind that it's only a couple of years since they went through the horrific effects of covid on their...
If you mean trail maintenance, provision of facilities (water, toilets) - perhaps, in some areas, but that’s not what is under discussion.
But accommodation? There are no "authorities responsible" !
Accommodation on the camino is not a right.
I'd forgotten about this! Decades ago I had a French girlfriend and we visited her family for Christmas.
After several days her mother did exactly that, (chabrot). Initially the family expressed shock, she simply pointed out that I was like family and should be treated as such. Where upon...
Oh dear I had to start it didn't I! I thought that we were all familiar with this hence my jocular reference. It was supposed to be a pun, sorry!
Yes, it's quite common and we've actually discussed this on the forum before. This custom varies a little from country to country. Bread, sometimes...
