    How to choose shoes?

To piggyback on C clearly’s post, again, and trecile’s, REI co-op member’s get a full year to return stuff as opposed to 30 days for non-members.

    How to choose shoes?

C clearly has it wired as far as her shoe choosing routine is concerned, as well as starting at REI if you have them/or they deliver to where you live. I went to my local REI yesterday (Friday) intending to buy 2 pair of Hoka Stinson 7 trail runners, but they didn’t have it in the 2nd color that...

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

Well, I checked out the thread you suggested even tho’my sewing skills don’t go much beyond reattaching a button🤷🏽‍♂️ So trecile, do you know if anyone has marketed the “Parcho”, or is it up to talented seamstresses like yourself who know what in Sam Hill they’re doing to make their own? Kudos...

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

I know the 👀, but not to worry about strange looks. If it works, bring ‘em on! And as I’ve learned from many posts here and watching some very informative videos online, the Camino ain’t Paris Fashion Week.

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

Thank you for your 2 cents of info, and good info it is. I’ll give your 2 cents back and an extra 2 if you tell us the name of the $15 no-name poncho. I tested my FroggToggs poncho during the winter of ‘22-‘23 up in Michigan and it performed similarly to your son’s. I’ve been hemming and hawing...

    My new backpack from Gregory

Gotcha. I don’t foresee my pack being anywhere near fully stuffed. It’s those unexpected and uncontrollable “piedra en mi camino” that tend to trip me up. Oh, well. Damn the contraptions! Full speed ahead. Thank you.

    My new backpack from Gregory

I feel the same about the 35. Went to REI, was the size I wanted, ditto with the accoutrements, played with it, liked it, but wanted to check out some other brands, too. Later, it went on sale, end of story. Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated.

    My new backpack from Gregory

Totally agree. I worked for an airline for a number of years, so I’m familiar with how things work, or don’t, and all kinds of contraptions, the mood of the gate keepers, the alignment of the sun, moon and other celestial objects, etc.😂. I thought that I’d missed something with the dimensions of...

    My new backpack from Gregory

Hmm. Interesting. Did you actually measure the pack? Just the frame? Or, like me, take the pack measurements from the REI site? According to the site, the small Zulu 45L measures out at 23.2 x 13.8 x 9.1 inches = 46.1. My small Zulu 35L measures 24 x 12.25 x 9.5 inches = 45.75. I think like you...

    My new backpack from Gregory

Thank you kindly for the details🤙🏽 I’ve been practice packing and walking with an older REI Traverse 30L with @4.5-5kg of weight, not including water, some snackies, meds and toiletry stuff, and have felt pretty good afterwards. And there is still room for the things I didn’t include. However...

Yeah, thought so. Thank you for your response. Buen Camino!

    My new backpack from Gregory

BTW, there were some concerns raised in the REI comments section about the Zulu 35 maybe being too big for an aircraft’s overhead compartment, depending, of course, on how stuffed you stuff it. And I refer here to a long-haul, trans-Atlantic size plane, not smaller aircraft common for flights...

    My new backpack from Gregory

Very glad to hear you like your Zulu 35. I recently got a great deal online from REI (I’d previously done an in-store fitting) and the pack is anxiously waiting for me at my sister’s. I’m looking forward to test packing it and doing some walkarounds in anticipation of my first Camino sometime...

    Meltdown in San Sebastián!

Bad stuff often happens in threes… tooth, finger, smoking adaptor. Here’s 🙏🏽 you are good to go from here on out. Que le vaya muy bien en tu Camino 🤙🏽

Boots or Hokas for the Central Route

Who knows? I wouldn’t be surprised if in my case it was a combination platter of my feet, the way I walk, the shoes, the lacing of the shoes, the tides, if the moon is in the 7th house and Jupiter is aligned with Mars🤷🏽‍♂️. Vamos a ver…😃

Boots or Hokas for the Central Route

Ah ha! I take it you refer to the inside lining. If so, I had the same problem with a previous pair of Oboes and my last pair of Hoka road walkers. I did the same with the ol’ duct tape standby repair. And after watching a couple of YouTube vids and picking my friendly neighborhood REI shoe...

Boots or Hokas for the Central Route

Hmm. After going to my local REI and trying on Speedgoat 5s, Challengers ATR 7s and the Stinson ATR 6s, I got the Stinsons as the toe box felt a little roomier. So, Robo, do you recall where on the shoe they first began to fall apart? Thanks…🤙🏽

    Shoe width and swelling?

I am also going thru the shoe buying process and it has been time consuming, but as so many of the experienced forum participants emphasize, wearing the correct shoes for your feet is número uno. As for the Skechers, yep, they’re comfy, have a wide selection and look ok… but, nah, not Camino...
