    How to choose shoes?

I know you are using New Balance as an example. Many people love them. I want to say that over 50 years I've bought three pairs hoping for the best after what happened to my first pair. The quality of the shoes are the worse for any product that I can remember (other than stuff ordered through a...

How to get the soap residue out of socks

This sock company has a substantial webpage on sock care, washing (by hand and machine), drying and storing. https://www.qforquinn.com/blogs/news/how-to-wash-wool-socks Looks like @C clearly knows what is going on; here's a snippet about mistakes to avoid from the webpage: Aggressive Rubbing...

    Orange Problem With US Iphones

I think this video does a pretty good job introducing you to SIMs and eSIMs. Click either the linked id or the video title to get YouTube in all its glory or click the red and white arrow logo to see an embedded video. YouTube video id: O6C4iWsQcgo

E-sim for both portugal and Spain

I don't know when the EU mandated that SIMs work throughout the EU but they should now. Be sure to check your phone settings though to ensure that roaming is enabled.

Any risk of walking without insoles?

A possible problem would be lack of arch support causing pronation causing knee problems. I wad tissue paper under insoles for this but maybe you can come up with a different method if you have problems. Edit: I struck out some of the above because @Bob008 and @lovingkindness had much better...

E-sim for both portugal and Spain

If you want to keep the same SIM or eSIM for 35 days you should look into being able to recharge it online in Spain or Portugal. It's been reported that SIMs bought in Portugal can't be recharged once in Spain. It's not a crisis as you could always buy a new SIM but if you want to retain the...

Phone Service while traveling - Holafly?

The two big names for data providers that I remember are Holafly and Airalo. Holafly gets recommended for heavy data users but I think there are few pilgrims that need this. You may find Airalo will better serve your needs cheaper. There are plenty of other providers but if you are a newbie...

Is this powered USB hub setup safe?

FYI, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) logo on a product does not certify that a product meets any safety requirements. It means that the product will produce minimal electromagnetic interference. The introduction to Wikipedia's article on the FCC mark says: The FCC logo or the...

Am I the only one perplexed by WhatsApp?

Repeating what @peregrina2000 wrote above, mobile numbers in Spain are nine digits long and start with either a 6 or a 7 (an exception is that numbers starting with a 70 are not mobile numbers). Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_numbers_in_Spain

Am I the only one perplexed by WhatsApp?

My guess is they weren't near the phone. Try a text message. Here I suspect that somehow you had the incorrect country code after the +. I'm still new to WhatsApp though so someone else may come up with a better response. Edit: that looks like @DoughnutANZ who finished writing before I did.

What’s the difference between my two chargers?

This post will only interest a few technically inclined readers. Today on my morning YouTube viewing the following video was presented to me (I swear that I didn't seek it out). The channel DiodesGoneWild tears apart chargers to examine them. Most are found to be dangerous but this one passes...

What’s the difference between my two chargers?

The following is most of one of my previous posts. It is a bit related to this thread's subject. Apple's very expensive cords have a lot of electronics hidden within them. Within two minutes this video shows you what the cables look like inside. Then it explains why it needs everything. Then...

What’s the difference between my two chargers?

Adapters are for sissies. [Note: Don't do this in real life or life will no longer be real.]

What’s the difference between my two chargers?

My eyes started to shut so I can't give a good review of this paper (unless "My eyes started to shut" counts). International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics Volume 92, November 2022, 103345 Weight-dependent sensation and measurement for portable chargers...

Apps on the Camino & Random Tech Help!

I like Gronze. Here are a few tips. If you use the Chrome browser it will either automatically translate the webpages for you or ask you if you want it to do the translation. Other browsers can do translations also but you probably have to use their menus to get it done. When translated some...

US International Phone plan or Spanish SIM card while on the Camino?

If you are trying to estimate how much data you will need figure on 1 mb per minute for calls made with cellular data. You'll get about 16 hours of calls for 1 gb at that rate. I see various numbers given but most have the 1 mb rate at the high end of costs.

US International Phone plan or Spanish SIM card while on the Camino?

Some phones allow multiple eSIMs and your regular plan could be on an eSIM allowing your travel plan to be either a physical SIM or an eSIM.

US International Phone plan or Spanish SIM card while on the Camino?

Be careful with the monthly international plans. If your regular home plan starts at the beginning of a month and you are taking a month long trip starting in the middle of a month you could end up paying twice as much for what you use.

US International Phone plan or Spanish SIM card while on the Camino?

Because it is expensive but, really, it looks like it may be the plan for you; simple to use for $3 a day.

How to call a US cell number from the US (when the phone is in Spain)

American here. I use NoMoRobo to screen calls from known spammers. The phone rings once and then NoMoRobo only lets the possibly good numbers through. There is a way to have real people to get through if NoMoRobo thinks they are a robot. Free for landlines, mobile has to pay something. Also...
