Volunteering at Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago

It sounds like Raphael! We all volunteered together, Kasee..

    How to Volunteer in SdC?

There's not really any demand for volunteers between late October and early April, even some of the permanent staff are off.

Volunteering at Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago

Oh, I'll be a few days behind you..

    How to Volunteer in SdC?

Of course there is.. Generally, if the pilgrim is honest and straight up, as most are.. they are treated with respect and compassion. If they are a blatant liar and taking the piss, they are likely to be treated less favourably, as in all walks of life! But as a new volunteer, you'd be guided...

Volunteering at Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago

I have. You'll be shown what's what when you come, so really no need to stress about the details for now!

Volunteering at Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago

Your duties as a volunteer will be the welcoming of pilgrims and giving them their compostela, as before. Even with much of the process automated, it is still a personal service.. it's a nice place to volunteer! I will be there myself in early October.

    Camino fatigue?

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I do know I've had days like these.. tiring days, boring days that I question what I'm doing here at all. I'm always glad of my own bed at the end of a camino, but still, the longing comes back. Nothing will ever compare to the magic of that first...

    Porto to Villa do Conde

It's a hard one.. we had to let our 14 year old dog go last year, she was really one of the family. Buen Camino

    Low fee ATMs. Where

It would indeed be helpful, but for me at least, life's just too short and it's all too confusing.. I'm very lucky.. I can drop everything, jump on a plane and go walking across Spain for a month at short notice. When I run out of cash, I can go to a hole in the wall, get another clump of...

"It's not about the gear" camino article from an irish jesuit blog

I agree with what he writes: there is too much (media driven) focus on planning, logistics and physical fitness and not enough on mental attitude and preparedness for an inner journey. At the risk of offending some, it seems to me, this very forum represents pretty well this 80/20 rule thing...

    Low fee ATMs. Where

Yes. My own comments were aimed at the forum readership in general. True indeed, and my hat goes off to young people who manage to stretch their funds in order to prolong their travel experience. My son came back recently from eight months around Europe and North Africa. I wouldn't last a month...

    Low fee ATMs. Where

I agree. If we were to make withdrawals every couple of days, it would be worth shopping around, sure. But for the sake of a couple of withdrawals over the course of a whole camino, is it worth worrying about? A pilgrim coming from a far away land, was recently concerned about the average cost...

    Porto to Villa do Conde

A pity.. the walk from the cathedral, out along the Douro to the Foz and beyond, is far nicer than most of the 'urban walking' you'd have endured between Coimbra and Porto in the preceeding days...

    Slow but moving forward

Someone wearing a hut should be easy to spot. Are you carrying your own accomodation on your back?

    Porto to Villa do Conde

Yes, and there are plenty of places to eat and drink along the way. If sardines are for you, you'll be spoilt for choice. just follow your nose..

    Porto to Villa do Conde

Again, yes.. it's 10km shorter. You would miss walking out to the mouth of the Douro and up coast to Matasinhos. Personally, I love it, some don't

    Porto to Villa do Conde

I've walked the 30km or so from the cathedral in Porto, out to the Foz and up the coast to Vila do Conde numerous times. It's flat, easy walking, much of it on board walks, but on a hot day it gets tiring towards the end and there's little shelter along the way. Yes, you could shorten it by...

    Showers

Better to get it out of the way soon after you arrive to keep things moving for others coming behind.. especially in a busy period on a busy camino.

    Confused over date format

...just check your booking by emailing or phonimg them, instead of asking the internet. Then, no more doubt.

I did it- and feel like a winna!

Lovely post, wonderful attitude! You truly embraced it all and took the bull by the horns! Your first and last you say? Ha, let's see.. Well done!
