Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

I can't even imagine leaving that late and I've never heard of anybody else doing it. I wouldn't walk over the Pyrenees in in the dark. It can be very cold up there and there a couple of spots where it may be hard to see and follow the arrows. Play it safe and leave the next morning.

What do we do about prescription medications? ( Especially controlled substances)

I left them in the original pharmacy bottles in my waist pack until I got to SJPdP. Then I moved them into a pill box and tossed the bottles. Nobody at JFK or Paris looked at them.

    First day SJPdP to Orisson

I can only speak for myself to say that I missed a turn-off that would have taken me up a very steep path. Instead, I ended up on a narrow asphalt road that zig-zagged the whole way up to the Orrison. It was scary. I strongly suggest that you don’t miss the dirt path.

    Altus products in forum store?

    Definitely the rain poncho!

Altra trail shoes versus hiking shoes

I just finished the CF this month. I wore Lone Peaks. I’m doing the Portuguese Coastal next year and I’ll wear the same ones.

    Sticks and Boots

I just finished Camino Frances last week, SJPP to SdC. I wore NEW (not broken in) Altra Lone Peaks with Injinji Toe Socks. I did not get any blisters. I met 4 women and one man with the same footwear setup. None of them had blisters either. I had 2 hotspots at the tips of 2 toes. I covered...

Help with posting excess gear home

I sent my “overage” to Casa Ivar from a Pamploma Correos, and picked it up when I arrived in SdC. Correos has boxes if needed too.

    European SIM - data-only or talk/text?

I got data-only (Orange eSIM) and used WhatsApp for texting and FaceTime for calling.

    Finally a camino tattoo

I love it! I’m in SdC now. I just finished walking yesterday. I’m here until Nov. 3rd so I want a tattoo before I fly home.

LIVE from the Camino Struggling with doubt on the Camino Frances

If I had a dime for every time somebody asked me, “You ok?”, or offer me a cough drop at which I had to explain that it won’t help. “The problem is my lungs not my throat.” LOL

LIVE from the Camino Struggling with doubt on the Camino Frances

Take rest days when you need it or shorten your walking intervals. Also, sit and rest during your walks. My Achilles was aching too even though it ruptured back in 2015 and was repaired. That concerned me! I also had a total knee replacement 14 months ago. Oh, and asthma! 😄. I’m 4 days from...

    Female lone traveller

I started walking September 1st. I’m STILL walking. LOL. And I’m doing it alone. There are a ton of lone women walkers. Yet other pilgrims are usually within earshot. You’ll make friends and then say goodbye only to meet up again in another town. I’m doing it MY way and on MY schedule. I’m...

    Schwab account questions

I used my Schwab card for as much as I could in Spain. The ATMs don’t have logos on them, so I never knew which machines were fee-free.

Looking for someone to take my room in Fonfria - tonight 24 September

I have a room booked in Fonfria TONIGHT Sunday, September 24,2023. I won’t be in Fonfria. You’d pay €47,50 for a pension room at Casa de Lucas. I can change the name on the booking, but I can’t cancel. If you’re interested, please message me.

Heads Up on Shoes Taken From Gite

I put my initials on the back (facing out) in black permanent marker. It should prevent mix ups and deter theft.

    Fleece in Pamplona and beyond

    Thank you. I think I will. 😃
  17. Thyme_Is_Running_Out

    Fleece in Pamplona and beyond

Thank you. That makes sense. 10 euros is a deal!
  18. Thyme_Is_Running_Out

    Fleece in Pamplona and beyond

I’ve been using one, I just thought maybe I’ve been toting it around for nothing. 😃
  19. Thyme_Is_Running_Out

    Fleece in Pamplona and beyond

Ok, that’s unfortunate because it takes up a lot of room. But then I’ve lost a bra and merino t-shirt, so maybe it’ll fit in my bag better. Phew…

    Fleece in Pamplona and beyond

Hey veteran Pilgrims, I’m currently just east of Pamploma. I’ve been carrying a fluffy fleece zip-up with me that I didn’t even use going over the Pyrenees during Saturday’s storm. Do you think it’s something I can send ahead to Casa Ivar or do you think I’ll need it going forward. Note: I...
