    Casa Banderas in Vilacha

I stayed at Casa Banderas on my first Camino in October 2016. It was my most memorable experience at an albergue. I was dismayed the next year to learn that Gordon had gotten sick and had to close it.

When did they start playing the bagpipes in the Praza do Obradoiro?

There are a number of pipers that rotate playing in the arch, as well as other musicians. They sign up on a schedule that is kept in a space in the rock behind where they play. So I learned on a walking tour of the Plaza.

Grañon, Grañon, oh my dear Grañon again.

I have never stayed in Grañon, but have heard wonderful things from those who have. I will stay there next April. Buen Camino

A quote that seemed "camino" to me this morning

Hola Peregrinos, I'll share a quote today, I didn't see it on Camino and I don't remember where I found it, probably on the forum. “The Road is my job. The pack is my home. The pilgrims are my family.” Graffiti on the Camino.

Taxi from Santiago airport to Tui

I would check to see if someone posting on Blah Blah Car is looking for passengers from Santiago to Tui or Valença just across the river. How late are you arriving?

A quote that seemed "camino" to me this morning

Over the years I've been saving Camino and walking quotes, this one is a good addition. I can't help myself, I have to add: " Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet." Roger Miller

Pilgrim House - 10th birthday party on Tuesday, July 23, 2024!

Happy Anniversary Pilgrim House!! I won't be there to mark the occasion, but you will be in my thoughts on the 23 July. You are my favorite place to relax in Santiago.

    Ponferrada worth 36hrs pre-Camino?

Isobel, I want to thank you for recommending Alpinarium to me the night before I started the Invierno the last Sunday of April. I ate there as often as I could while I served at San Nicolas the second quincena of May.

    Ponferrada worth 36hrs pre-Camino?

What is the "one exceptional restaurant" in Ponferrada? I'm wondering if it is someplace I tried, probably not, given my budget, but I'm curious. I just spent 2 weeks there as hospitalero at San Nicolas.

Buying walking poles in Santiago or Muxia

I’m going to donate my poles to a needy peregrino at the big donation, San Nicolas de Flüe, in Ponferrada when I get there tomorrow.

    Taxis to Tui

Have a drink or a bite while passing through the fort and get your credencial stamped as well.

LIVE from the Camino Starting the Invierno today - March 12, 2024

Thanks so much for your entertaining reports on the Invierno. With the time difference Galicia - California I can read them first thing in the morning, if I can wait that long.

“Buffer” travel days to and from Madrid

I agree with Alexwalker. In April I plan to walk the Invierno from Ponferrada, so I’m going directly there from Madrid as soon as possible. I try to schedule my arrival in Spain for as early in the morning as I can, to give me time to get to my starting point. I’ll power through the jet lag...

    A million questions

I got my first sello at the café where I stopped for coffee in Valença . As others have said, nearly every café, bar, albergue, hotel, city hall, church, tourist office or any place that interacts with peregrinos will have a stamp, just ask. Get two everyday from Valença/Tui onward, if you are...

    A million questions

Why not get a stamp in Valenca and consider that you have started your Camino there? I took the train from Porto to Valenca in 2022. I stopped for a coffee not far from the station and got my first sello there. I highly recommend the Variant Espiritual!

    Hospitaleros & The Pilgrim

I volunteered at Nájera, after walking the Portuguese from Lisbon, in November 2021. It was such a valuable experience serving the pilgrims, sharing Camino stories and doing what I could to help them on their Camino. This year I will be serving at San Nicolas del Flüe albergue in Ponferrada...
