    VdlP April 2025

Thanks for helping me make my choice. I will stick with my original plan. I am allergic to crowds (especially large, festive ones) so I will flee Seville before Semana Santa! You informed me that this event occurs in smaller locations so I won't miss out. Oh, and yes Italica is on my list. I...

    VdlP April 2025

Hi TM! My departure date from Seville is a work in progress as well. I want to visit Morocco and Gibraltar before the camino but that needs more planning. And if you note my conversation with OzAnnie, I am still trying to decide if I should depart Seville before Semana Santa or actually...

    VdlP April 2025

Thanks OzAnnie! I have heard from friends that the Semana Santa is both crazy and somber, and that I should plan to be in Seville at that time and experience it. My original plan is to be well and clear of the mania, but maybe I should rethink this? What are your thoughts? PS. I leave for...

    VdlP April 2025

Hey everyone. My plan is to walk the VdlP from Seville to Santiago via the Sanabres commencing 10 April (plus or minus a day or two). This will be my 4th camino and I'm really looking forward to getting away from the "busy" Frances and Portuguese ones. That being said, good company is always...

Via De La Plata in March 2025

Hey everyone! I plan on walking the VdlP in early April of 2025....probably around the 10th or so and departing from Seville...also walking the Sanabres to Santiago. Anyone else in that time frame?

Crazy! 😝 That is what we were told...

Hey guys! If you remember I watched all of your videos on YouTube...highly entertaining and informative. Good to "see" you again :)

Pamplona to SJPdP 10 September 2023

Hi there! I have my bus ticket from Pamplona to SJPP already. I am staying in an albergue in Pamplona the night before, and it's a mere walking distance to the bus station.

Advice for walking from Roncesvalles to Zubiri

Yup a horrible descent, arguably the worst one of the entire Camino Frances....I was glad I had knee sleeve/braces on and used my staff. I also walked it in dry weather; otherwise it would be the road for me

Pamplona to SJPdP 10 September 2023

Hi there! That's a little late for me otherwise I would join you. Hopefully see you on the CF. I begin 11 Sep

    Hiking sandals or not?

I used my Teva sandals for indoor use as well (yes they were always clean)

    Hiking sandals or not?

On the Camino Frances last summer, I used a combination of trail runners and Teva hiking sandals. It was a perfect combination. When I needed more ankle support on certain portions of the trail, the trail runners were supreme. The hiking sandals are perfect for regions like the Meseta - flat and...

Warning for those who visit Santiago: you can not eat or drink in the Plaza del Obradoiro

Semi naked? Looks like they just took their shirts off....which is technically, I suppose, "semi naked"....but really? Why so ashamed of that?

Anyone "Gut Train" with Kimchi/Sauerkraut pre-Camino?

My gut training is eating all of the most delicious foods in Spain!

    Viana

I loved Viana. Burial place of Cesare Borgia...how cool is that? I also stayed at the former "palace" now converted to hotel for a pleasant and temporary escape from the albergues. A nice little town with great spots to eat/drink.

Warning for those who visit Santiago: you can not eat or drink in the Plaza del Obradoiro

A massive celebration of course! The Camino provides!!!

Warning for those who visit Santiago: you can not eat or drink in the Plaza del Obradoiro

I popped a bottle of champagne at the finish in front of the Cathedral and several of us drank from it merrily. We had just completed a 800 km walk and we earned it. No one cared, nor should they.

    Men's pants recommendation

Pants? Never use them. Hiking shorts only

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Spanish QR code? Nope

That’s not what I said. There is a lot of worry, discussion and fear about the infamous QR code. Going through all the steps for nothing seems ridiculous
