I am sure you can get one in all non-profit albergues, in cathedrals, and possibly in tourism offices.
On Gronze, the mention "Expiden la Credencial" means that you can get a credential there. For instance in Abbaye Ste Foy at Conques.
Of course you can get a new one.
Not sure that stamps collected on MiamMiam Dodo would be accepted exactly as a credential... A credential may be required in France to enter donativos. My guess is that hospitaleros expect a credential rather than the guidebook.
Try to walk "Voie du Célé" if you...
Yes indeed it is, but in July a light rain clothe should be sufficient.
I do not understand what you mean exactly by "secular".
Grand Séminaire Accueil St Georges is not exactly "secular" because it is ran by religious. But you will not asked your religion, and not forced to anything. For me it...
It would be a pity to miss Le Puy-Conques !
I advice to skip these days elsewhere.
1st solution (but I do not know about public transport avaibility): try to find a bus after the Cele, may be in St Cirq-Lapopie or Cabrerets, then go to Cahors by bus, then to Moissac or Lectoure by train or bus...
Because in France, many pilgrims do their Chemin part after part, namely by slices of 8-10 days.
Le Puy-Conques is doable within this time, and it is the most famous/beautiful segment of Voie du Puy. Moreover, arrival at Conques is something magical. Therefore many pilgrims do only this part...
When I reach SJPP after walking Podiensis, the hospitalero tells us:
"You have walked in France, you will walk in Spain. If you want to enjoy Camino Francés, try to forget all you know about Voie du Puy".
It is a wise advice, and should be told also to those who know the Francés before Voie du...
It’s too early to book. If you walk alone, except for Le Puy, it is enough to book one day for the other. I advice the former séminaire in Le Puy for first night. Do not miss the mass at 7am before walking, whatever your belief or language is. At the end of office, you will get a surprise. You...
"El Camino de Le Puy (o Vía Podiensis) es el principal camino por Francia y la más importante vía de peregrinación medieval europea. La primera peregrinación documentada es la del obispo Godescalcentre los años 950 y 951. Se inicia en Le Puy-en-Velay, en la región de la Auvernia, y hoy en día...
I have sent a mail to "l'Abri du Jacquet" in Saint Privat (the best choice in this town in my opinion).
They answer they do have many beds on June, the 7th.
If you are interested, confirm the booking to them from their site (https://www.labridujacquet.fr/): "Nous contacter" among the menu in the...
Regarding language, @Peterexpatkiwi is right: try to write your email in French. If you want, give me some telephone numbers and what I should ask then I will call for you. Gronze should be convenient in order to give you the current list of albergues.
The problem of June regarding the beginning...
I read some questions about vitamins (or magnesium) availability in Spain:
1) The original question was about France (Podiensis), not Spain.
2) It is very likely you can find all this stuff in France or in Spain.
That is the point: distinguishing between:
- "bivouac": you put your tent in the evening, and remove it next morning
- "camping": you leave your tent mounted in the day.
The first should be allowed, or at least tolerated, nearly anywhere. I have some pilgrim friends who has mounted their tent...
On Podiensis, the weather should be fine. But take care that arriving in Galicia by end of October, beginning of November probably would mean rain, rain, rain.
Last October I walk from León to Santiago (being in Melide on October, 31st): 12 days of walk, 12 days of rain.
Galicia is very wet.
Perhaps the best option is to take the Célé variant, got to visit St Cirq-Lapopie, and then join the usual path via Concots and Varaire.
I do not know about the markup there, but if you download a smartphone app like mapy.cz, the path is shown.
I took the Célé variant 3 years ago, and I have discussed with others:
- Rocamadour should be your choice if you like shrines. Notice that the "true" Rocamadour variant does not end at Cahors, but at La Romieu. I heard that it is peaceful there.
- Célé variant is a bit demanding (the way goes...
