I've been on the Sanabrés in July and it was not overly hot but one never knows. Of course my ability to deal with heat might not aline with yours since I've walked from Valencia and Sevilla in July.
Hope you made it to Oseira safely and in descent health. I've stayed in the old albergue twice taking the tour in the afternoon but I hear that the albergue is much improved since the renovations.
Ultreia.
Yeah but that was a serious downhill, one I've not forgotten.
Switchbacks is indeed the way to go if the path or road is wide enough. I remember doing that during the downhill to the reservoir on the Primitivo. It just goes on and on!
Who knows, I may have the same experience as you both this...
That's interesting. Last summer I walked this stage and I don't even remember a downhill. Or it can be that after having walked both the Olvidado and the Invierno that I was just focused on arriving in Santiago.
Buen Camino Luka! Look forward to hearing about your walk. I'll be back on the Plata/Sanabrés at the end of June after 10 years! It will be interesting to see if there have been any changes.
But as I said there is a donativo in Salamanca. The first night you could stay there and the second night in the other place.
If you're taking the Sanabrés there is also a great donativo in Tábara.
I've walked the Plata twice and parts a third time and although I never had an issue finding a bed (July and February) I did hear that April is or at least was the busiest month in the year as most northern Europeans prefer walking in cooler temperatures.
I hope that you have now gotten out of...
That's a b*tch! In 2014 I left my poles in a hostal in Cordoba and realized it about an hour into my walk. I immediately turned around and they were waiting for me against the wall near the front door.
Mine were cheap Decathlon poles but since my first Camino I can't do without. I sure hope...
That was my experience too, albeit years ago in the old albergue.
I'm really curious to hear about the renovations since I've stayed in the very damp, rustic albergue twice. Still glad I did although the second time was the day of the train accident on its way to Santiago for the July 25th...
If you like the heat then you shouldn't have a problem. I've walked it in July, continuing on through Orense (the Sanabrés) and there were definitely pilgrims on the stretch from Salamanca to Santiago.
Definitely agree here. The Plata was actually my second Camino although I split it in two (Sevilla-Zamora, Zamora-Muxía). Given that there were 5 starting out in Sevilla, it was much "busier" than my Levante, Lana, Mozárabe and Olvidado!
Back in 2011, with the help of statistics from the...
Can't agree more! I've stayed in the muni in Zamora four times (2x ending and restarting the Plata there, 1x ending the Levante and 1x on route to Santiago during my second Plata).
When I arrived after the Levante one of the Spanish hospitaleras asked if I could stay a few days to help out...
Hi Elke,
Half May is not summer and in fact in the past, May was the busiest month on the Plata so you won't be alone.
Everyone is different but I have walked from Sevilla mid June and even leaving in July and although very warm to hot I personally was fine. I did carry 3 liters of water and...
